AVIATION PRACTICE

DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International's Baltimore Aviation Practice is seeking a Senior Project Manager - Aviation Terminal Programs to lead major airport terminal, concourse, passenger processing, baggage handling, landside facility, and aviation building projects. The ideal candidate will have direct senior project management experience on large airport terminal projects with construction values greater than $100 million and a demonstrated record of leading multidisciplinary design teams, coordinating complex stakeholder environments, managing project scope/schedule/budget, and supporting construction-phase delivery in active airport settings.
Critical Experience Requirement
The successful candidate must have direct senior project management experience on large airport terminal, concourse, passenger processing, baggage handling, landside terminal, or aviation facility projects with construction values greater than $100 million. Candidates should be able to describe their role, project size, delivery method, team structure, construction value, stakeholder environment, and measurable project outcomes.
Position Responsibilities
  • Lead multidisciplinary A/E teams on large airport terminal, concourse, baggage handling, passenger processing, landside facility, and aviation building projects
  • Serve as a client-facing project manager for airport owners, airline stakeholders, TSA, airport operations, maintenance, concessions, security, code officials, contractors, and construction managers
  • Manage complex project phasing, passenger/tenant impacts, operational continuity, stakeholder coordination, and design decisions within active airport environments
  • Oversee project scope, fee, schedule, budget, risk, change management, quality control, and construction-phase services for major terminal or airport facility programs
  • Coordinate architecture, civil, structural, MEP/FP, baggage handling, special systems, security, sustainability, cost estimating, scheduling, constructability, and construction administration disciplines
  • Lead issue resolution during design, procurement, and construction, including RFIs, submittals, design clarifications, change evaluations, and owner/contractor coordination
  • Manage contracts and/or individual projects for commercial aviation clients
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the firm's business strategy and financial success
  • Champion technical quality initiatives, design practice integration (along with Design Leaders) and project process leadership
  • Manage, hire, and develop the design team members
  • Manage and coordinate workload of teams and provide leadership of team activities
  • Communicate client objectives, provide constructive feedback and mentoring, and identify and share lessons learned with teams
  • Position requires ownership and commitment to adhering to project timelines, budgets, project efficiency, and identifying, managing and tracking project changes
  • Assure that technical quality of projects is achieved and enforce application of QA/QC process standards and requirements
  • Ensure appropriate client and internal communication including written project documentation
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with clients, project managers and in-house engineering disciplines.
  • Strong design, technical, and communication skills (visual, verbal, and written) are essential
  • Interact with Program owner and other stakeholders to understand needs and requests
  • Verify compliance with applicable design standards
  • Provide support for development of aviation-related proposals

Professional Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related professional discipline; Master's degree in a related professional discipline preferred.
  • 15+ years of aviation design, program management, project management, or construction-phase experience.
  • Direct senior-level project management experience on at least one airport terminal, concourse, passenger processing, baggage handling, landside terminal, or major aviation facility project with a construction value greater than $100 million.
  • Strong preference for experience at large hub, medium hub, or complex commercial service airports.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large multidisciplinary teams, including architecture, civil, structural, MEP/FP, baggage handling, special systems, security, cost estimating, scheduling, and construction-phase support.
  • Experience coordinating with airport authorities, airlines, TSA, FAA, operations, maintenance, security, code officials, contractors, construction managers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Experience managing design deliverables, construction documents, QA/QC reviews, phasing plans, cost estimates, schedules, risk registers, change management, and construction-phase services.
  • Experience with delivery methods such as Design-Bid-Build, CMAR/CMGC, Design-Build, progressive design-build, or other collaborative delivery models preferred.
  • Professional registration such as PE or RA. Additional credentials such as CCM, PMP, DBIA, or similar are preferred, but not a substitute for large airport terminal project experience.

COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $130,676.70 - $226,389.45. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
