How much do international project finance jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 22, 2026, the average yearly pay for international project finance in the United States is $83,188.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $55,500.00 and $112,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is international project finance?

International project finance is a method of funding large-scale infrastructure or industrial projects in which the project's cash flows and assets are used as collateral, rather than the balance sheets of the project sponsors. This approach is commonly used for projects like power plants, transportation infrastructure, and natural resource developments that involve multiple countries or cross-border partnerships. It often requires complex legal and financial structuring to manage risks such as currency fluctuations, political instability, and diverse regulatory environments. The goal is to allocate risks among various stakeholders, including lenders, investors, and governments, to ensure the project's success and financial sustainability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in international project finance?

To excel in International Project Finance, you need expertise in financial analysis, risk assessment, structuring complex cross-border deals, and typically a degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Familiarity with financial modeling software, project management tools, and relevant certifications such as CFA or PMP is highly valued. Strong negotiation, cultural sensitivity, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for coordinating with global stakeholders and navigating regulatory environments. These competencies are essential for securing funding, mitigating risks, and ensuring successful execution of large-scale international projects.

What are the typical challenges faced in international project finance roles, and how can professionals effectively navigate them?

Professionals in international project finance often encounter challenges such as managing cross-border regulatory compliance, coordinating with diverse stakeholders, and mitigating currency and political risks. Successfully navigating these issues requires strong analytical skills, adaptability, and clear communication across multicultural teams. Developing a solid understanding of local regulations, maintaining up-to-date risk assessment processes, and building collaborative relationships with legal, financial, and technical experts are crucial for effective project delivery and long-term career growth in this field.

What is the difference between International Project Finance vs Project Finance Analyst?

Project Finance Analysts support these efforts through detailed financial analysis and modeling. While both roles require strong finance credentials, International Project Finance professionals typically work on larger, global projects, whereas Project Finance Analysts focus on supporting project evaluation and due diligence.

Job description

  Position Summary

Antora's Project Finance team sits at the center of turning a rapidly expanding commercial pipeline into financed, executed projects. We're looking for a project finance professional to join a small, high-leverage team and own the economic analysis and underwriting behind this growing deal pipeline.

You'll bring 3+ years of project finance experience and the judgment to hit the ground running, underwriting complex energy and infrastructure deals, partnering with commercial development teams across verticals, and helping build the standardized tools and processes that let Antora underwrite consistently as we scale. Over time, you'll grow into leading project financing yourself.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Build, maintain, and stress-test project-level financial models across Antora's commercial development verticals.
  • Own economic analysis and underwriting for an active and growing pipeline, providing critical modeling bandwidth to the Project Finance team.
  • Partner closely with commercial development, policy, strategy, and power-supply teams to standardize how projects are underwritten and ensure market learnings flow back into deal structuring.
  • Develop templatized models and screening tools for the commercial teams, and train developers to use them effectively for early-stage evaluation.
  • Support the investment-committee process, providing structured financial guidance as projects mature from early screening to signed term sheets and beyond.
  • Contribute to the broader capital-raise effort as Antora builds repeatable financing facilities with preferred investors.
  • Grow toward independently leading due diligence and negotiation on project financings over time.
 Key Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in project finance, energy/infrastructure finance, infrastructure investing, or a development-side finance role.
  • Demonstrated mastery of project-level financial modeling; building models from scratch and using them to drive real decisions.
  • Strong grasp of how commercial contracts, offtake agreements, and financing structures shape project economics.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment full of innovative deals.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication; able to advise and enable non-finance partners.
  • A real passion for analytical and underwriting work; and the ability to teach it.
 Additional Qualifications Desired
  • Direct experience underwriting energy projects
  • Background in or exposure to project development, giving you an operator's instinct for how deals actually come together.
  • Experience building analytical tools/templates adopted by non-finance teams.
  • International project experience
  • Comfort designing or improving repeatable processes (e.g., investment-committee frameworks, underwriting standards).

Work Location:  Onsite - San Jose, CA

Salary Range:  $104,000 USD - $125,000 USD

Salary Basis:  Annual

Please note that the salary range listed above reflects Antora Energy's estimated pay for this position. The actual salary offered will be within the posted range and determined based on several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experiences, credentials and expertise, as they pertain to the position's requirements.
