Job description

Position Information
Job Title International and Cultural Programs Coordinator Nature of Work
Provide support to international student populations and facilitate a welcoming campus community in which all students are encouraged to share their individual cultural backgrounds and experiences with one another in a respectful manner; coordinate student programing; initiate and implement educational programs concerning issues centered around marginalized student communities; collaborate with Admissions to increase international students; and, serve as a retention specialist for underrepresented student populations.
Examples of Work Performed
  1. Collaborate with Director to actualize the WSC strategic goals to promote a campus community which provides meaningful access to all students, global engagement and cultural enrichment, and the recruitment/retention of international students and others who provide unique perspectives.
  2. Provide leadership in developing and implementing transition programs for international students and coordinate cultural education and awareness programs, heritage month celebrations, and opportunities that promote meaningful interaction among students and the WSC community.
  3. Represent the Office of International and Cultural Programs at campus events, new student registration, recruitment activities, and initiatives that promote belonging, intercultural understanding, and student success.
  4. Follow federal laws to ensure international student scholars are in complete compliance to maintain legal status.
  5. Collaborate with Admissions to increase international student enrollment.
  6. Serve as an advocate for international and cultural student concerns.
  7. Support faculty and staff initiatives aimed at integrating global perspectives and a variety of cultural experiences into teaching and learning.
  8. Support academic advising for international and cultural students utilizing Wildcat Online and Wildcat360.
  9. Responsible for evening and weekend international affairs programming and meetings with cultural organizations.
  10. Serve as advisor to cultural and international student organizations and clubs.
  11. Coordinate the Wayne Community to friends of international students' group.
  12. Serve as Wayne State College Designated School Official (DSO).
  13. Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
