International Police Trainer Jobs (NOW HIRING)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the general direction of a Police Sergeant, the Police Officer performs law enforcement duties to protect Authority property, facilities, personnel, and the general public at Tampa International Airport. This role involves enforcing Authority regulations as well as federal, state, and local laws. The Police Officer responds to various incidents such as disturbances, traffic accidents, and emergencies, providing assistance and preparing related reports. This position requires a strong commitment to public safety, effective communication skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure while ensuring compliance with legal and operational procedures.

This position requires flexibility to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays, to meet the demands of our 24/7 operations. 

Requires availability for emergency call-in.

COMPENSATION: STARTING AT $28.20 / HOUR ($61,588.80 annually) 

PLEASE NOTE: Pending contract and board approval, starting rate may increase to $32.05 / HOUR ($69,997.20 annually) based on experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

         Enforces all Authority regulations, federal, state and local laws.

         Responds to calls and investigates problems, disturbances, traffic accidents, crimes, emergencies and other incidents; provides assistance and prepares related reports.

         Performs foot and vehicle patrols in jurisdictional areas to detect and monitor possible criminal activity and interrogates suspicious persons.

         Maintains patrol car, weapons, and other law enforcement equipment to ensure operational readiness.

         Enforces traffic laws by observing, issuing citations and warnings and apprehending violators on Authority premises.

         Apprehends and arrests suspected law violators to ensure public safety.

         Provides information and assistance to the public.

         Completes written reports and required forms in accordance with standard operating procedures and directives.

         Prepares and submits clear and detailed reports in a timely manner.

         Testifies in court to provide an accurate account of investigation reports and findings.

         Impounds abandoned or illegally parked vehicles, and vehicles used in the commission of crimes.

         Administers Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and first aid as required and maintains certification currency.

         Transports prisoners to detention or medical facilities.

         Operates communications equipment.

         Prepares and preserves evidence in accordance with directives to maintain chain of custody.

         Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while performing tasks to ensure a safe working environment, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and reporting potential hazards.

         Regular and reliable attendance is required as an essential function of the position.

REQUIRED FOR ALL HCAA JOBS

• In the event of an emergency or disaster that impacts the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority (HCAA), an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee's department or the HCAA Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Such assignments may be before, during, or after the emergency/disaster.
• Complies with all HCAA Policies, Procedures, and Standards.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS)

         High School Diploma or valid equivalent.

         Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 

         Certification as a law enforcement officer by the State of Florida Criminal Justice Standard.

         Must pass existing CJSTC requirements.

         Must possess a valid Florida Driver License.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

         Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Law, or a closely related field.

         Two (2) years of experience as a federal, state, county, city or airport authority law enforcement officer.

         Previous experience in law enforcement.

         Served in the United States armed forces for a minimum of 18 months.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

         Knowledge of crime detection, criminal investigation, accident investigation, and court procedures.

         Knowledge of civil and criminal laws, police and Aviation Authority rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures.

         Knowledge of traffic accident control measures and investigation methods and techniques.

         Skill in the use and care of firearms and other law enforcement-related equipment.

         Ability to make effective decisions calmly and quickly in an emergency or hazardous situation.

         Ability to enforce the law courteously, tactfully, firmly, and impartially.

         Ability to follow established procedures and pay close attention to detail.

         Ability to work with antagonistic persons or with the public under adverse conditions.

         Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.

         Ability to use a computer and related software.

         Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.  

         Ability to handle restricted, sensitive, and confidential information.  

         Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others within and outside the Authority.  

         Ability to provide outstanding customer service, serve the public, and represent the Authority with courtesy and professionalism.  

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

         Standing & walking up to 6 hours per day.  

         Frequent sitting.  

         Occasional lifting up to 50 Ibs or more.

         Frequent bending, stooping, climbing, and reaching overhead. 

         Occasional pushing, pulling & dragging. 

         Frequent typing.  

         Frequent talking & hearing.  

         Frequent eye, hand & foot coordination.  

         Very frequent exposure to extreme weather. 

         Navigate occasionally heights and confined areas 

         Occasional exposure to excessive noise.  

         Frequent use of car/light truck.
