Job description


School Year 2026-2027
Position:  Reading Specialist-Elementary School
Primary Function:  To provide supplemental instruction to students
RESPONSIBILITIES:








  • To provide individual and small group instruction to students.
  • To demonstrate teaching techniques and the use of various materials to help students improve reading skills.
  • To diagnose and prescribe a plan of instruction to assist students. To maintain records on each student's progress.
  • To assist in conducting workshops with other teachers, aides, and parents.
  • To establish and maintain a reporting system with the student's regular teacher  and parent.
  • To assist with other related tasks that may be necessary in the Reading Program.
  • To collect and record test information that is required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree in Reading or literacy preferred, or Masters in Education with 24 graduate level credits hours aligned to the International Literacy Association Standards in reading or literacy.
  • Delaware Standard Reading Specialist Certificate.
  • At least three (3) years of  teaching experience in the area of Reading preferably in the elementary grades.
  • Ability to work with students needing remedial assistance preferred.
