Job description

Summary
NCGA’s Director, Public Policy – Trade & Supply Chain is responsible for lobbying, building, and maintaining coalitions and relationships beneficial to the corn industry.

Reports to: NCGA Vice President, Public Policy

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lobbying the Congress, the Administration and various departments and agencies on trade, biotechnology, and other critical supply chain issues.
  • Building and maintaining coalitions beneficial to the corn industry and NCGA policy, specifically the Agricultural Coalition for USMCA.
  • Keeping Action Team members, Corn Board members, officers and staff informed of developments regarding issues and NCGA efforts.
  • Acting as spokesperson for organization for issue areas to various audiences.
  • Supporting staff for NCGA Trade Transportation and Animal Agriculture Action Team and Production and Sustainability Action Team. Organize activities of grower team responsible for NCGA trade/market access efforts.
  • Collaborating with staff from U.S. Grains and Bioproducts Council to advance international market development and grower trade education.
  • Collaborate with Corn Board members, Action Team members, national and state staff, industry colleagues, and policymakers on input supply chain issues.
  • Managing outreach and bridge building with Embassies of trading partners.
  • Staff lead for MAIZALL international biotech initiative

Qualifications and Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and listening skills.
  • Excellent writing and oral presentation skills
  • Ability to work in collaborative team setting.
  • Ability to work with constantly changing priorities and under challenging timelines.
  • Ability to manage activities of grower members and leaders.
  • Able to work independently and make educated decisions.
  • Organized, detail oriented and good at time management.
  • Experience in dealing with media.
  • Must maintain confidentiality.
  • Willingness/Ability to work in a bipartisan fashion.
  • Familiarity with agriculture, the food system and/or trade

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • At least seven years of experience on Capitol Hill, Federal/State government or equivalent

Travel
Requires travel (15%). Valid passport and ability to travel outside the United States. Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $150,000 to $185,000, commensurate with experience.
