Clinical Laboratory Associate I

Join our dynamic team at Oxford BioDynamics as a Clinical Laboratory Associate I at our US premises in Frederick, Maryland, and contribute to our mission of "innovation saving lives."
Company Overview:
We are an international biotechnology company, advancing personalized healthcare through precision clinical diagnostic tests and EpiSwitch Orion, a cloud-based 3D genomics platform that transforms existing datasets into actionable insights for pharma and biotech partners.
Currently OBD has two commercially available products: the EpiSwitchยฎ PSE (Prostate Cancer Detection) blood test and EpiSwitchยฎ CiRT (cancer immunotherapy response) blood test. PSE boosts the predictive accuracy of a PSA test from 55% to 94% when testing the presence or absence of prostate cancer. CiRT is a highly accurate (85%) predictive response test to immuno-oncology checkpoint inhibitor treatments
The Group's US operations and clinical laboratory are in Frederick, Maryland. Our headquarters and UK laboratories are in Oxford, UK, and we have a reference laboratory in Penang, Malaysia.
Role Overview:
The Clinical Laboratory Associate 1 is responsible for handling biological samples, reagents, and materials in support of clinical laboratory testing. This is an entry level laboratory-based position whose primary functions will include a combination of clinical operations support and patient testing services.
Key Responsibilities:

  1. Experimental Responsibilities - 70%
    • Receive, inspect, and accession clinical samples
    • Execute assigned clinical sample processing utilizing approved SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and following related WI (Work Instructions)
      • Processes include extraction of DNA from human whole blood, quantitative PCR (qPCR), and data analysis
    • Operate a variety of laboratory equipment (e.g., qPCR thermocyclers, electronic pipettes, centrifuges, robot automation, etc.)
    • Perform sample processing in compliance with the Clinical Quality Management System and record all experimental details in real-time
    • Communicate and support resolution of any issues/deviations that arise
  1. Operational Responsibilities - 30%
    • Read and follow all company guidelines, policies, and SOPs
    • Contribute to laboratory cleaning and maintenance duties and associated documentation (e.g., maintenance logs, physical/electronic inventories, labelling)
    • Abide by all safety requirements as defined by the company, including proper use of personal protective equipment for working with human materials and chemicals
    • Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements

Qualifications and Experience:
  • or MSc. in relevant subject (with wet lab research projects) or equivalent experience (which must include basic knowledge in scientific method, math skills including simple algebra, and knowledge of chemistry and biology).
  • 1 year of laboratory experience is preferred (ideally in a CLIA certified laboratory or other regulatory environment).
Skills:
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and a focus on high-quality results
  • Responds quickly to assignments and readily adapts to changing job duties.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment
  • Good problem-solving, documentation, and time management skills
  • Has a positive attitude and a good work ethic
