Software Engineer, AI & Internal Tools (All Levels)

David Protein

New York, NY

$150K - $250K/yr

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, PTO

Posted 20 days ago

Job description

Company:

David creates tools to increase muscle and decrease fat. Our first product is a protein bar. More broadly, David is a platform to develop high-protein, low-calorie, blood-sugar-friendly foods that are craveable.

This is a compelling opportunity to join an exciting new food brand as we enter a critical growth stage. David is led by CEO Peter Rahal, the Cofounder and Former CEO of RXBAR ($600M exit to Kellogg in 2017). We have strong aspirations to become the most popular high-protein bar in North America and beyond.

Roles & Responsibilities:

The Software Engineer, AI & Internal Tools will serve as one of the company's primary builders of internal tools, automated workflows, and AI-powered systems. This role will identify high-leverage opportunities, architect solutions that scale, and influence how the company adopts AI / new technology. In doing so, this role will help systematically eliminate manual, repetitive work across the organization with reliable, programmatic solutions by working on building AI-powered internal workflows, capabilities, and tools that significantly improve our operations.

This role is open across experience levels.

Internal tools & application development

  • Design, build, and maintain internal tools that replace manual processes across Finance, Operations, Growth, Retail, and Supply Chain.
  • Write production-quality code in Python and/or TypeScript; pick the right language and framework for the problem.

AI workflows and agent orchestration

  • Design and deploy AI-powered workflows for document parsing, data extraction, classification, summarization, and decision support.
  • Build and orchestrate AI agents using LLM APIs, agent frameworks, MCP connectors, and RAG, including tool orchestration, routing logic, and guardrails.
  • Implement evaluation frameworks and human-in-the-loop patterns to ensure reliability and accuracy of AI-driven outputs.
  • Manage credentials, sensitive data, and third-party integrations, and design workflows with appropriate access controls and guardrails.

Data pipelines & infrastructure

  • Co-own data pipelines and dbt models that move data from source systems into BigQuery and transform it into clean, analytics-ready datasets.
  • Troubleshoot pipeline / data quality issues, and support new integrations as we onboard additional platforms.
  • Automate and maintain reporting that finance, ops, and leadership rely on: dashboards, recurring reports, and ad hoc analyses to answer business questions.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in software engineering, data engineering, or a closely related technical role.
  • Technical proficiency:
    • Strong proficiency in Python / TypeScript: you write clean, testable, production-grade code with proper testing, version control, and CI/CD.
    • Production experience with at least one full-stack web framework (Next.js / React preferred) and one relational database (Postgres preferred).
    • Fluency with modern AI tooling: LLM APIs (Claude, GPT), agent frameworks, context engineering, RAG, MCP, tool use, and structured outputs.
  • A track record of building tools, systems, or automations that other people actually use in a professional setting, a side project, or an open-source contribution.
  • The ability to operate independently while clearly communicating priorities and initiatives to the rest of the team.
  • Humble, self-aware, and curious.
  • A desire to build an early stage CPG company with a mission to help people increase muscle and decrease fat.

Benefits

  • This is a full-time role.
  • Salary: $150K - $250K per year, inclusive of cash bonus based on attainment of company targets
  • Company equity opportunity
  • 100% covered Health, Vision, Dental Insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Additional perks, such as covered gym expenses
  • Substantial and required PTO
  • We work in the office 5 days per week in New York City - when culture lines up, it is fun to be in the office together.
