Job Summary:
ALSO is an electric mobility company focused on creating innovative small EVs to meet global mobility challenges. The Sr. Validation & Tools Engineer - Dev Tools will design and implement developer productivity tools, collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance engineering enablement and tooling solutions.
Responsibilities:
• Build and maintain internal tooling and infrastructure for report generation, test dashboards, traceability, quality metrics, and system observability.
• Integrate AI-assisted development workflows into daily engineering practice, including prompt design, evaluation, and optimization for code generation, test creation, triage, documentation, and developer support tools.
• Create scalable Python-based systems and automations using modern best practices, including static analysis, linting, unit testing, and maintainable software design.
• Troubleshoot and resolve software defects, performance bottlenecks, tooling gaps, and platform-specific issues across a range of operating systems, hardware targets, and development environments.
• Drive tooling solutions that improve collaboration and handoffs across teams, helping unify workflows between firmware, applications, mobile, cloud, and test engineering.
• Participate in peer code reviews and technical design discussions, providing thoughtful feedback and helping maintain a high bar for quality, reliability, and
Qualifications:
Required:
• BS or MS in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in software design and development of tools, automation, and infrastructure supporting quality engineering, CI/CD, and embedded software or firmware development.
• Strong professional proficiency in Python, with hands-on experience building internal tools, test frameworks, automation systems, and engineering productivity workflows.
• Experience applying AI-based code generation and developer tooling in practical engineering environments, including effective prompt engineering for day-to-day development, testing, debugging, and workflow automation.
• Demonstrated ability to work across cross-functional teams and translate diverse stakeholder needs into useful, maintainable tooling.
• Proficiency with modern version control systems, especially Git.
• Familiarity with test automation and validation tools for vertically integrated products spanning embedded firmware, application software, mobile apps, and cloud backends (for example: Selenium, Appium, Espresso, Pytest, Vysor).
• Experience interfacing with hardware using protocols such as I2C, SPI, USB, and JTAG; familiarity with automotive systems and protocols such as CAN, CAN-FD, and UDS is a plus.
• A strong passion for building tooling that improves developer velocity, engineering quality, and cross-team collaboration.
Preferred:
• Hands-on experience with AI developer tools such as Claude Code, ChatGPT, or Gemini is a plus.
• Experience with modern Python tooling such as uv, ruff, ty, and pyright is a plus.
