POSITION DUTIES
Under the supervision of the Intelligence & Investigative\r\nDivision Director and supervisors, conducts administrative and criminal\r\ninvestigations within the various Divisions and Units of the Department of\r\nPublic Safety and Correctional Services. These duties are carried out with\r\ntotal police/law enforcement powers as bestowed by Maryland State law for\r\nindividuals completing training as a police officer in the State of Maryland,\r\nas provided for by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Receives allegations and conducts confidential\r\n investigations of criminal activity and allegations of serious misconduct.\r\n Interviews complainants, victims, witnesses and individuals\r\n under investigation to gather information for investigations using approved,\r\n acceptable standard interview and interrogation methods in accordance with\r\n established procedures.\r\n Identifies and collects physical evidence and reports\r\n information related to assigned investigations using standard evidence\r\n collection tools.\r\n Composes criminal and administrative investigation reports\r\n that are clear, logical, impartial and properly documented.\r\n \r\n\r\n\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must meet all\r\nminimum qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people\r\neligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.\r\n\r\n\r\nEducation: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high schoolcertificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Police Training Commission regulation.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience: Two years of investigative work as an Internal Investigation Detective, Provisional; or two years of comparable law enforcement investigative experience in a municipal, county, state or federal police agency.\r\n\r\n\r\nNotes:\r\n1. The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Police Training Commission in accordance with Public Safety Article, Section 3-207, Annotated Code of Maryland.\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Candidatesmay substituteeducation from an accredited college or universityat the rate of 60credit hours, including at least 15 credit hours of criminal justice courses, for up to one year of the required experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n3.Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in special investigations or military police classifications or specialty codes in the criminal justice field of work at the rate of two years of military experience for one year of required experience.\r\n\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Candidates for this classification must possess and maintain a current Maryland certification as a Police Officer. \r\n2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. \r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate must be fluent in spoken and written English. The ideal candidate must effectively and respectfully communicate with diverse populations, providing services to individuals with different beliefs, behaviors, and interpersonal styles in confinement or community settings. Professional working fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, or any other language is a plus.\r\n1. Employees must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Police Training Commission for police officers in accordance with Public Safety Article, Section 3-207 of the Annotated Code of Maryland. Selection standards for police officer training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 04, Chapter 01 and include the following:\r\nU.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status\r\nMust be at least 21 years of age\r\nA complete background investigation\r\nOral interview\r\nPhysical examination\r\nPolygraph and psychological evaluations. \r\n2. Candidates for this classification will be given a medical examination to determine their ability toperform job-related functions. Employees in this classification will be required to bear firearms, and to demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis. \r\n3. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in on a 24-hours a day basis and will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached. \r\n4. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, 12.04.01 and Maryland Police Training Commission General Regulation .01-1, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs\r\n
