Job description

As a Software Engineer, Automation & Developer Tools at Everlaw, you will be a key architect of our quality culture, helping to shape automated testing at legal technology's fastest-growing SaaS company. You will be responsible for maintaining and improving our CI/CD pipelines, facilitating advanced automation techniques, and serving as a technical mentor for our QA team. We are looking for a proactive engineer who is not just a practitioner of automation, but a visionary-someone always on the lookout for new approaches to ensure our platform remains robust as we pursue our mission to promote justice by illuminating truth.
In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will sit within our Engineering department, acting as a vital bridge between Development and QA. Other engineers become your "users"; building the tooling, templates, and documentation that allow teams to implement and improve automation seamlessly will have a multiplicative impact. By participating in the Testing Guild and conducting thoughtful code reviews, you will ensure that our automation standards remain high and our release cycles stay efficient and reliable.
Skills you are expected to possess:

  • Expertise in at least one major programming language: Java, Python, Javascript, C++
  • Fluency with Data Structures and Algorithms
  • Experienced with usage of design patterns and coding best practices
  • Designed, built, maintained, tested, and launched cloud-based software
  • Led multi-developer efforts, including planning, technical breakdown, and coordination
  • Mentored other engineers and consulted on issues within areas of expertise
Getting started
  • We want you to feel like part of the team early on! Our onboarding process will integrate you into the company with informative sessions on our product, policies, processes, and team structure and goals. [And you'll spend meaningful time getting to know your direct reports and discover what excites and challenges them.]
  • We're excited for you to learn, grow, and contribute right away! We trust that you'll bring experience and knowledge that will uplift and uplevel the team, but we don't expect you to know everything on Day 1.
In your role, you'll...
  • Refine and evolve testing infrastructure and tooling that enables engineers to ship high-quality features at scale
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated testing systems using tools such as GitHub Actions, CircleCI and Cypress.
  • Create internal tools that improve developer productivity and shorten iteration cycles
  • Partner closely with DevOps to optimize test execution and reliability within CI/CD pipelines
  • Drive best practices in testing, observability, and release confidence across the engineering org
  • Research and implement new automation approaches - including the use of AI - to stay ahead of industry trends and keep our testing infrastructure cutting-edge.
  • Collaborate with developers to interpret code coverage results and identify strategic areas for new test investment.
  • Mentor QA Engineers on all topics related to automation, helping them troubleshoot technical blockers and uplevel their scripting skills.
About you
  • You have a BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent coursework.
  • You have at least 5 years of experience working deeply with Cypress for web application automation.
  • You have demonstrated expertise in using CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, CircleCI or GitLab to create and manage workflows.
  • You are experienced in API testing and understand how to validate data across different layers of an application.
  • You have a mentorship mindset and enjoy helping others grow their technical capabilities with Cypress and other automation techniques.
  • You are a proactive problem-solver who can navigate Linux-based systems and troubleshoot complex automation hurdles.
  • You are authorized to work in the United States without restrictions. Please note that at this time, Everlaw is not sponsoring employment visas for this role.
Benefits
  • The expected salary range for this role is between $131,000 and $191,000. The final offered salary will be dependent upon many factors including the candidate's experience and skills. The base pay range is subject to change in the future.
  • Equity program
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company matching
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Flexible Spending Accounts for health and dependent care expenses
