Summary

 

The Sr. Director of Communications will drive external communications and public relations strategy to shape brand perception, enhance corporate reputation, and build trust among media, consumers, and stakeholders. As a leader within the marketing and communications department, this role will be a trusted advisor to Cosm executives and responsible for guiding a high-performing team, liaising between internal and external partners, and amplifying the company’s public profile, all while ensuring strategic and consistent communications that align with organizational priorities.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned communications professional with experience in sports, entertainment, and technology. This individual leads by example and is collaborative, adaptable, and forward-thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a best-in-class integrated communications plan to increase awareness, relevance, and visibility of Cosm’s brand, platform, and leaders
  • Oversee external press relations and proactive press outreach to secure high-impact placements across sport, entertainment, business, technology, and advertising press
  • Drive announcement strategy for major corporate news, as well as partnerships, sponsorships, events, and launches
  • Manage a successful awards program that prioritizes ongoing, year-round nominations and submissions to position Cosm and its leaders as best-in-class.
  • Advance and co-drive an effective athlete and talent relations arm in close partnership with the Marketing and Partnerships teams
  • Develop a sustainable on-the-ground media relations strategy that can be implemented and replicated across all Cosm locations
  • Support internal communications efforts by equipping corporate and venues employees with the tools and resources necessary to represent the Cosm brand
  • Support executive visibility and thought leadership within the sports and entertainment industry
  • Support crisis communications planning and reputation management efforts
  • Ensure consistency of voice, narrative, and positioning across all communications efforts, the Cosm brand, and the entire Cosm platform

Experience

  • 12+ years of relevant experience in sports and entertainment, technology, and/or corporate communications
  • 5+ years of experience as a people manager who leads by example and fosters high-performing and collaborative teams
  • Experience as a corporate spokesperson and building long-term relationships with media outlets and personnel
  • Strategic thinker who plans ten steps ahead, considers both short and long-term implications behind every communications plan and decision
  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit both technically and creatively, and effectively communicate complex information and elaborate concepts to both internal and external audiences
  • Adaptable in a fast-paced environment with an acute ability to make level-headed decisions under pressure and actualize those decisions into impactful results
  • Strong understanding of sports, talent and athletes, film and entertainment, popular culture, and the ever-evolving technological landscape
  • Ability to travel on a regular basis

The annualized base salary range for this position in California is $175,000 to $210,000. The base salary offered will factor in internal equity and may also vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and relevant experience, among other factors.
