Job description

The Summer Intern (Project Engineer in Training) supports the engineering team in the design, analysis, and coordination of structural building components, including trusses, wall panels, and related systems. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in a fast-paced manufacturing and engineering environment, allowing the intern to apply academic knowledge to real-world projects while developing technical, analytical, and professional skills. The intern will work under close supervision and collaborate with internal teams to assist in project execution, learn industry standards, and gain exposure to structural design, codes, and construction practices.

President of Whole House Engineering – Fort Pierce, FL

Essential Functions

  • Assists engineering team with coordination of truss drawings, seals, and repair documentation under supervision.
  • Supports the review of truss drawings for general structural requirements and code considerations.
  • Performs basic engineering and technical tasks under close supervision, with a focus on learning and applying engineering principles.
  • Assists with modeling, calculations, and documentation for assigned projects.
  • Supports structural analysis efforts for building components such as wall and roof systems, under guidance.
  • Reviews reports, drawings, and project documents to gain familiarity with design and construction processes.
  • Assists in preparing reports, plans, and project documentation.
  • Conducts research on applicable building codes and permitting requirements as directed.
  • Coordinates with internal teams and external partners (architectural, MEP, etc.) to support project needs.
  • Assists in responding to RFIs and resolving minor design conflicts with guidance from senior staff.
  • Participates in occasional site visits to observe existing conditions and assist with gathering field data (photos and measurements).

Travel

Required Education and Experience

  • 0–1 year experience related in structural/residential engineering related work
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural Engineering from four-year college or university in progress
