NLC has made significant investments in its internal infrastructure to ensure operational excellence and organizational sustainability. These departments play a critical role in supporting the mission of NLC and its service to local governments:

  • Center for Operations & Administration: Oversees internal systems, facilities, and organizational logistics.
  • Center for Budget & Finance: Manages financial planning, budgeting, and fiscal accountability.
  • Center for Digital Engagement, Marketing & Communications: Leads digital strategy, branding, media relations, and member communications.
  • Executive Office & Human Resources: Supports executive leadership, talent development, and organizational culture.

Position Overview

Interns in NLC’s Operations and Infrastructure departments will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit management, organizational strategy, and internal operations. This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in the behind-the-scenes functions that power mission-driven organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with administrative and operational projects across departments.
  • Conduct research and data analysis to support strategic planning and process improvement.
  • Help develop internal communications, reports, and presentations.
  • Support event coordination, digital campaigns, or financial documentation, depending on placement.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings and contribute to team initiatives.
  • Provide general support to department staff as needed.

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate in business administration, nonprofit management, communications, finance, human resources, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with tools like Salesforce, Adobe Creative Suite, or financial software is a plus.
  • Interest in public service, nonprofit operations, federal policy or municipal governance.
