Job description

Natural Gas Scheduling Intern

The Natural Gas Scheduling Intern is a part-time role designed to provide exposure to natural gas scheduling, pipeline operations, and commercial support activities. Working under close supervision, this role assists the scheduling team with data entry, nomination support, reporting, and administrative tasks that help coordinate natural gas transportation and delivery between suppliers, pipelines, and end users.

This role supports day-to-day operational activities while learning basic industry concepts, internal processes, and compliance expectations. Work is closely guided by experienced team members, and assignments are typically routine, structured, and focused on accuracy, timeliness, and professional development. Demonstrates integrity, accountability, and transparency; upholds BKV standards, values, and culture.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with daily natural gas scheduling activities, including data entry, nomination preparation, and review of basic pipeline information under close supervision.
  • Support the scheduling team in meeting daily nomination deadlines by gathering information, checking inputs, and escalating questions promptly.
  • Monitor assigned pipeline notices, operational updates, and reports as directed, and summarize relevant information for team review.
  • Assist with preparing routine reports related to physical pipeline positions, scheduled volumes, and operational activity.
  • Collaborate with schedulers, traders, analysts, and other stakeholders to learn how scheduling activities support commercial objectives.
  • Follow established procedures and compliance guidance related to scheduling activities, escalating questions or concerns to the assigned supervisor.
  • Learn foundational concepts related to pipeline balancing, nomination cycles, imbalance tolerances, and the financial impact of scheduling accuracy.
Required Skills
  • Interest in learning natural gas industry standards, pipeline operations, market fundamentals, and regulatory requirements.
  • Basic analytical mindset with curiosity about commercial operations, transportation optimization, and energy markets.

Education & Experience

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree program in business, energy management, finance, economics, supply chain, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior internship, coursework, or project experience related to energy, commodities, analytics, operations, or business administration preferred but not required.

Preferred

  • Interest in natural gas scheduling, pipeline operations, energy trading, or commercial energy markets.
  • Exposure to data analysis tools, business systems, or industry-specific applications is a plus.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Location

  • This part-time internship is based out of the BKV Office in Houston, TX with a schedule determined by business needs and the intern's availability.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based with part-time hours; schedule may vary based on business needs, school commitments, and agreed work availability. May occasionally be exposed to distracting noise while sharing office space with others.
  • On-call, evening, weekend, and holiday coverage is not expected for this internship unless specifically approved in advance and aligned with applicable program guidelines.
  • Critical Deadlines: Intern may assist the team with preparation for daily nomination cycles, including Timely, Intraday, and Evening cycles, under close supervision.

  • Ability to operate a computer, telephone, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
