JOB SUMMARY INTERN (HOUSING) HOURLY RATE - $18.90 - $19.67 Approximately 20 hours per week. Must be available to work between the hours of: 7:30am - 6:00pm, Monday - Thursday THIS RECRUITMENT IS TO FILL ONE PART-TIME POSITION IN THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT'S HOUSING DIVISION. The examination process will consist of a competitive evaluation of qualifications based on a review of the application and supplemental questionnaire; therefore it is to your advantage to provide as much detailed and relevant work experience

WORKING CONDITIONS AND HOURS This is a part-time, non-benefited "at-will" position with working hours to be assigned at the discretion of the Community Development Department's Housing Division. Applicants must be available to work on average 20 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, between 7:30am to 6:00pm.
Employee shall not work in excess of 960 total hours per fiscal year. THE POSITION Under direct supervision, the Housing Intern will perform a variety of responsible administrative and clerical duties in support of the Community Development's Housing Division. This position will provide a variety of routine clerical duties including but not limited to, data entry; assist in development of reports; maintenance of records; file and sort information; compose and prepare a variety of correspondence and other materials; sort and distribute mail; answer telephones and relay messages; update and maintain a variety of files related to housing activities; accompanies housing staff on site visits; assists with information and referrals services; responds to the community, outside agencies, and internal departments regarding housing programs; assists professional housing staff in the collection of data and preparation of staff reports, presentations, letters, application forms/handouts and public notifications; greets and assists visitors and responds to citizen inquires; performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITES Possess strong quantitative, analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills. Apply proficient computer skills and knowledge to support a wide-range of statistical and accounting related functions. Proficiency in using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel (advance knowledge is highly desirable).
Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instruction; Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and able to maintain strict confidentiality. Ability to multi-task, be detail oriented, effectively prioritize, have strong organizational skills and be flexible and easily adapt to frequent changing priorities. Utilize excellent customer service skills to perform the usual receptionist duties such as answer phones, greet and assist customers, and relay messages.
Respond to questions from internal and external customers in a timely, courteous, professional and confidential manner. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university with a major in public or business administration, real estate, or closely related field; or a recent graduate (within the last 12 months) with a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, real estate, or a closely related field. One (1) year of increasingly responsible general clerical experience is highly desirable.
