Intern Coatings information

Is $30 an hour good for an intern?

For an intern in a coatings-related role, earning $30 an hour is considered above average, as most internships typically pay lower wages. This rate may reflect specialized skills, industry standards, or the location's cost of living, and it often indicates a competitive internship compensation package. However, pay can vary based on experience, company size, and geographic region.

What are the big 4 internships?

The 'Big 4' internships typically refer to internship programs offered by the four largest professional services firms: Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Ernst & Young (EY), and KPMG. These firms offer internships in areas such as consulting, audit, tax, and advisory, providing valuable experience for students pursuing careers in accounting, finance, and consulting. Internships usually last 8-12 weeks and may lead to full-time offers upon graduation.

What does an Intern Coatings do?

An Intern Coatings assists with the development, testing, and application of coating materials such as paints, varnishes, or protective finishes. They typically support senior engineers or scientists in quality control, research projects, and the preparation of samples in laboratory or production environments. Their role may also involve data collection, analysis, and helping to solve real-world problems related to corrosion, durability, or appearance of coatings. This internship provides hands-on experience and insight into the coatings industry, often as part of a degree program in chemistry, materials science, or engineering.

What jobs will boom in 2026?

Jobs related to coatings, such as coating technicians and applicators, are expected to grow due to increased demand in manufacturing, construction, and maintenance industries. Skills in surface preparation, safety protocols, and familiarity with modern coating technologies will be valuable for these roles in 2026.

What kinds of projects and responsibilities can I expect as an Intern in Coatings, and how will I collaborate with the team?

As an Intern in Coatings, you can expect to assist with a variety of hands-on projects, such as preparing and testing coating samples, collecting and analyzing data, and supporting research on new materials or formulations. You'll often collaborate closely with chemists, engineers, and laboratory technicians, gaining exposure to both laboratory work and production processes. Interns are usually encouraged to ask questions and participate in team meetings, which helps build practical skills and industry knowledge. This collaborative environment not only supports learning but also provides networking opportunities and insight into potential career paths within the coatings industry.

What is the highest paying intern job?

Intern Coatings positions in specialized industries such as aerospace, automotive, or industrial manufacturing tend to offer higher pay due to the technical skills required. Generally, internships in engineering, research, or roles requiring certifications or advanced knowledge can be among the highest paid for interns.

What is the difference between Intern Coatings vs Coatings Technician?

AspectIntern CoatingsCoatings Technician
CredentialsTypically pursuing or have completed relevant coursework or certificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent; certifications may be preferred
Work EnvironmentTraining settings, laboratories, or supervised projectsOn-site application, preparation, and inspection of coatings
Industry UsageEntry-level, learning phase within manufacturing or construction industriesSkilled role with hands-on coating application and maintenance

Intern Coatings roles are primarily educational, focusing on gaining experience and understanding coating processes. Coatings Technicians are experienced workers responsible for applying and inspecting coatings in real-world settings. The two roles differ mainly in experience level and responsibilities, with interns in training and technicians performing skilled tasks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Intern in Coatings, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Intern in Coatings, you generally need a background in chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering, often accompanied by relevant coursework or laboratory experience. Familiarity with analytical instruments, coating application techniques, and safety protocols is commonly expected. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate findings clearly are crucial soft skills in this role. These competencies are important because they ensure accurate experimentation, effective collaboration, and support the development of high-quality coating products.
