Job Title: Golf Course Maintenance Intern

Reports to: Director of Golf Course Operations & Horticulture

Status: Non-Exempt

Job Type: Full-time, seasonal May to August


Education and/or Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in a relevant degree program (e.g., turf management, agronomy, horticulture).

Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations:

  • Basic knowledge of golf and an interest in golf course maintenance.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team.

Job Summary:

Mountaintop Golf & Lake Club features a championship golf course designed by Tom Fazio in 2006. This internship offers exposure to all turf management related jobs, becoming an integral part of our team. Interns will gain valuable experience and knowledge, advancing their education and career in the turf industry.

Additional Notes:

Interns will collaborate with an elite team of over thirty professionals and staff, working out of a state-of-the-art facility with all necessary resources. Communication with senior staff members will occur daily, weekly, and monthly.

Job Tasks/Duties:

  • Course Maintenance: Assist in daily maintenance tasks such as mowing, watering, and grooming the golf course. Participate in the upkeep of bunkers, greens, fairways, and other course features. Learn and apply proper turfgrass management practices under the guidance of the superintendent.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain golf course maintenance equipment, including mowers, tractors, and utility vehicles. Perform routine equipment inspections and report any issues to the equipment manager or superintendent.
  • Irrigation System Management: Assist in monitoring and maintaining the golf course irrigation system. Learn about irrigation scheduling and troubleshooting.
  • Additional duties may include:
    • Chemical and fertilizer applications.
    • Irrigation/Toro Links setup and repair.
    • Working with John Deere and Toro equipment.
    • Daily and weekly planning.
    • Record keeping.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling.
  • Frequent repetitive motions.
  • Continuous standing and walking.
