Job description

Orthopedic Surgeon

As an Orthopedic Surgeon part of the Musculoskeletal team at Intermountain Health, you will work with a team of healthcare professionals committed to providing quality care and excellent patient experience. In this role you can expect to work at Alta View Hospital; seeing a mix of OR and in-office orthopedic surgical patients. The Musculoskeletal team at Alta View Hospital has 5 providers: 2 APPs, 2 physicians and 1 podiatrist. Fellow physicians specialize in hip and knee arthroplasty, primary care sports medicine, and podiatry. This position will serve as the Head Team Physician for Utah Mammoth, offering a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of professional sports medicine. You will join a dynamic, fully integrated team delivering comprehensive care and coverage across elite programs throughout Utah.

This role sits at the center of a high ‑ impact partnership between Intermountain Health, Select Health, and Smith Entertainment Group—demonstrating a shared commitment to advancing elite sports performance and community health across Utah. As the official medical partner for the Utah Jazz and Utah Mammoth, with Select Health serving as the exclusive health insurance partner, this position offers a rare opportunity to practice at the highest level of professional sports medicine.

A key differentiator is the new Intermountain Health Sports Performance Center in Sandy. Embedded within SEG's sports medicine campus, the physician will work alongside elite athletes and multidisciplinary experts in a state ‑ of ‑ the ‑ art environment designed for performance optimization, injury prevention, and recovery—closely integrated with the Utah Mammoth and Utah Jazz organizations.

Beyond direct team coverage, the broader partnership creates meaningful opportunities to lead and innovate in injury prevention, performance education, and community ‑ focused initiatives, including youth sports and mental health. For the right candidate, this role offers an exceptional blend of professional growth, visibility, and the chance to make a lasting impact both on and off the field.

Additional Position Highlights

  • This position includes a sign-on bonus and relocation assistance (if applicable)
  • You will practice at Alta View Hospital
  • You can anticipate 2 days per week in clinic, dedicated in-office and 2 days OR surgical time
  • Some patient-preferred hours will be required with local community travel requirements in the south Salt Lake area
  • Orthopedic 1 and 6 call required for level 3 trauma patients; compensation offered for call requirement
  • Local ASC with potential to participate

The ideal candidate will be board certified in Orthopedic Surgery (or a related specialty) and fellowship-trained in Orthopedic Sports Medicine. Candidates must also meet the following qualifications:

  • 5–10 years of experience providing orthopedic sports medicine care at the professional level (e.g., NBA, WNBA, NFL, MLB, or NHL)
  • 2–3 years serving in a Head Team Physician leadership role
  • Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine

What you'll bring

  • Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree; or equivalent if education is completed outside the United States
  • Completion of graduate fellowship medical education training program in Orthopedic Surgery with a CAQ board certification in Sports Medicine
  • Graduate education must be obtained through an ACGME or AOA accredited institution
  • ABMS or equivalent AOA Board Certification in the specialty(s) or subspecialty(s) of practice
  • Fellowship in Orthopedics Sports Medicine and completion of CAQ
  • Active Medical Licensure, or in process of obtaining licensure, is required in the state in which physician will practice
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers
  • DEA Registration schedules II-V
  • Ability to successfully complete Intermountain Health's credentialing process
