What is an interface developer?

Interface Developers are professionals who design, build, and optimize the user-facing parts of software applications, such as websites or mobile apps. They focus on creating intuitive and visually appealing user interfaces (UIs) that ensure a seamless experience for users. Their work often involves using technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks such as React or Angular. Interface Developers collaborate closely with UX designers and back-end developers to ensure that the application is both functional and user-friendly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an interface developer?

To thrive as an Interface Developer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and a solid understanding of UI/UX design principles, often supported by a relevant degree or portfolio of work. Experience with front-end frameworks like React or Angular, familiarity with design tools such as Figma or Adobe XD, and knowledge of version control systems like Git are typically required. Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills help Interface Developers translate user needs into effective, user-friendly digital experiences. These skills are essential to building intuitive, visually appealing interfaces that drive user engagement and meet business goals.

What are the common challenges faced by interface developers when working on cross-functional teams?

One of the main challenges Interface Developers encounter is ensuring seamless communication between design, backend, and QA teams. Balancing user experience requirements with technical limitations or backend constraints often requires creative problem-solving and compromise. Additionally, adapting to evolving project requirements and maintaining code consistency across different team members can be demanding. Successful Interface Developers are proactive in communication, receptive to feedback, and skilled at translating design concepts into responsive, functional interfaces.

About the Organization
Now is a great time to join Redhorse Corporation. We are a solution-driven company delivering data insights and technology solutions to customers with missions critical to U.S. national interests. We're looking for thoughtful, skilled professionals who thrive as trusted partners building technology-agnostic solutions and want to apply their talents supporting customers with difficult and important mission sets.
About the Role
Redhorse transforms the way government uses data and technology. To support this mission, we are seeking a UX/UI Designer who is passionate about building the digital bridge between government agencies and the citizens they serve. In this role, you will lead the charge in transforming manual government processes into intuitive, web-based applications. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of site concepts, ensuring a clear vision for the user's digital journey.
  • Design and architect user interfaces that are both aesthetically pleasing and functionally robust.
  • Define the information architecture of websites to ensure intuitive navigation and data flow.
  • Implement high-fidelity interfaces that integrate seamlessly with backend applications.
  • Translate complex mission requirements into responsive design elements and site architectures.
  • Collaborate with developers to ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs.
  • Code and refine application components to ensure design integrity throughout the development lifecycle.

Required Experience/Clearance
  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
  • Bachelor's Degree in Design, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in UX/UI design and web application development.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and experience coding in Java.
  • Proven track record of developing site concepts and interface architectures for enterprise-scale websites.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating experience in transforming complex requirements into user-friendly digital interfaces.

Desired Experience
We encourage all candidates who meet the basic requirements to apply, even if you do not have any of the following experience:
  • Experience with front-end technologies such as HTML and JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of database management systems including Oracle, Sybase, or SQL Server.
  • Familiarity with legacy web technologies such as Active Server Pages (ASP) or Visual Basic.
  • Ability to write and optimize SQL queries for data-driven application interfaces.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment using tools like Jira and GitLab.
  • Knowledge of Section 508 compliance and accessibility standards for government websites.
