POSITION SUMMARY

Porters are essential to the success and smooth operation of our facility. They are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and sanitation of the property at all times. A successful Porter is reliable, hardworking, observant, and able to work in a fast-paced environment. This role requires constant communication and collaboration with team members, excellent attention to detail, and a strong commitment to delivering a clean and safe environment for all Guests and staff. Porters are expected to take initiative, act quickly when needed, and follow all safety and compliance protocols. They are often the first line of response to spills, accidents, and unsanitary conditions and must be prepared to act with urgency, professionalism, and care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

Sanitation & Cleanliness:

  • Perform regular surface and deep cleaning of all restrooms and monitor them throughout shifts.
  • Clean a variety of flooring types including carpet, tile, concrete, pavers, compost decking, diamond plate, and wood using appropriate tools and chemicals.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of all common areas, including litter removal.
  • Wipe and sanitize high-touch surfaces such as tabletops, mirrors, windows, railings, chair legs, and table bases.
  • Scrub and clean walls, ceilings, stairs, trash receptacles, and baseboards as needed.
  • Ensure cleanliness in specialty areas such as trains, the Tree House play area, and the designated trash zones.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to biohazard situations and ensure clean-up is done according to health and safety protocols.
  • Identify and safely remove graffiti from walls, stalls, doors, and other surfaces.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Always use appropriate hazard signage (e.g., “Wet Floor”) to alert guests and staff of potential risks.
  • Follow all safety regulations regarding the use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Adhere strictly to protocols concerning bloodborne pathogens and universal precautions.
  • Use and store chemicals responsibly, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with manufacturer and company guidelines.

Support Functions:

  • Breaking down cardboard boxes for recycling.
  • Manage waste disposal of food and beverages properly to prevent leakage, contamination, and injury.
  • Keep storage and supply areas well-organized, clean, and free from hazards.
  • Replenish cleaning and restroom supplies as needed.

Quality Assurance:

  • Perform regular walkthroughs of the property and spot clean.
  • Re-clean high-traffic or problem areas as necessary to maintain consistent standards of cleanliness.
  • Treat all equipment, furniture, and surfaces with care to avoid unnecessary damage.

Security & Communication:

  • Maintain accountability for all issued keys, equipment, and cleaning supplies.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with management to report maintenance concerns, supply shortages, or any safety issues.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with all team members.
  • Complete any other duties as assigned by supervisors or management.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to:

  • Withstand prolonged walking, standing, bending, pushing, climbing and kneeling.
  • Work indoors and outdoors and be exposed to environmental factors such as excessive noise, seasonal heat and cold, hard to reach and unclean work areas, cigarette smoke, and hazardous materials and equipment.
  • Use the equipment associated with the position, including but not limited to carts, vacuums, chemicals and all other cleaning equipment.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be over 18 years of age.
  • Must have High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of janitorial or cleaning experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Able to effectively communicate in English, in both written and oral forms.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays is required.
  • Excellent Guest service skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
