What is an integration job?

Integration jobs involve connecting different software systems, applications, or data sources so they can work together seamlessly. Professionals in this field design, develop, and maintain solutions that enable data and processes to flow smoothly between various platforms. This often includes using middleware, APIs, and integration tools to ensure systems communicate effectively. Integration jobs are common in organizations that use multiple software programs or migrate data between systems.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an integration specialist?

To thrive as an Integration Specialist, you need a solid understanding of systems integration, software development, and data management, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with integration platforms (like MuleSoft or Dell Boomi), APIs, and certifications in relevant technologies are typically required. Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills help you collaborate across teams and resolve technical challenges. These abilities are crucial to ensure seamless data flow and interoperability between diverse business systems, which supports organizational efficiency and innovation.

What are common challenges faced by integration specialists, and how can they be addressed?

Integration specialists often encounter challenges such as managing data consistency across multiple systems, handling compatibility issues between different software platforms, and ensuring minimal downtime during the integration process. Addressing these challenges typically involves thorough planning, clear communication with stakeholders, and rigorous testing in staging environments before deployment. Staying current with integration tools and best practices, as well as collaborating closely with development, QA, and IT teams, can significantly help in overcoming these obstacles.

What is the difference between Integration vs Network Engineer?

Job description

Summary of the role

In the role of Integration Analyst, you will deliver secure, scalable, and reliable data flows that support our global operations. You will help architect and implement integrations linking business unit and enterprise platforms, manufacturing systems, and cloud applications. You will lead tool selection, evaluate and recommend the integration path forward, and determine whether iPaaS, RESTbased integrations, or native connectors best fit business needs. When standard options are insufficient, you will design and build custom adapters and microservices.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Connect enterprise systems platforms.
  • Design, develop, and maintain integrations using REST APIs, webhooks, and message queues.
  • Evaluate OOB connectors versus custom-built solutions, balancing cost, security, and maintainability.
  • Develop middleware (microservices, SDKs) to support complex integration logic.
  • Implement robust error handling, retries, idempotency, and monitoring strategies.
  • Create and execute data mappings, transformations, validation flows, and schema versioning.
  • Define API contracts, authentication flows (OAuth 2.0, API Keys), and secrets management.
  • Collaborate with InfoSec, infrastructure, and application owners to meet compliance standards.
  • Instrument integrations with logging, tracing, and metrics for insights and reliability.
  • Document integration architectures, runbooks, SLAs, and provide ongoing production support.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3–5 years of experience supporting system, application, or data integrations in an enterprise or multisystem environment.
  • Handson exposure to APIs, integration patterns, and modern data exchange formats (REST, JSON, XML).
  • Familiarity with one or more integration approaches such as iPaaS, custom API development, middleware, or eventdriven workflows.
  • Practical experience with at least one programming or scripting language (Python, C#, Java, or TypeScript/Node.js preferred but not required).
  • Understanding of integration fundamentals including authentication, error handling, retry logic, and basic monitoring.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms, containerization, or CI/CD pipelines is beneficial but not required.
  • Ability to learn new tools quickly and adapt to evolving integration needs as the organization matures its integration capabilities.

Competencies

  • Experience with PowerApps or Power Automate is a plus.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Analytical Problem Solving.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Willingness to learn and a hands-on attitude.

Geography to cover and travel requirements

  • Role is a global role with scope including all Trelleborg Medical sites.
  • Day and overnight travel up to 10% may be required to domestic & international locations.
  • For the first six months, this role will be fully onsite (Monday–Friday). After that period, the position may transition to a hybrid schedule with three inoffice days per week.
