Controller

Atlantic Foundations

Atlantic Foundations is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the company's accounting and financial operations. This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, compliance, payroll, and the daily operations of the accounting department.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional with strong leadership skills, exceptional attention to detail, and experience managing the financial operations of a growing organization. This position works closely with executive leadership to provide financial insight that supports strategic business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end close
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Develop and manage company budgets and financial forecasts
  • Monitor cash flow and recommend strategies to improve financial performance
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Coordinate annual audits and work with external auditors, tax professionals, and financial institutions
  • Develop and maintain internal accounting controls and financial procedures
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting to executive leadership

Accounting Operations

  • Manage all day-to-day accounting functions
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff
  • Review account reconciliations and journal entries
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules
  • Oversee banking relationships and treasury functions
  • Ensure timely completion of month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Maintain accounting policies and documentation
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies

Payroll & Human Resources Support

  • Oversee payroll processing and payroll tax compliance
  • Ensure accurate employee compensation and benefits reporting
  • Support Human Resources with onboarding and employee record administration
  • Maintain compliance with employment and payroll regulations

Budgeting & Cost Management

  • Monitor project costs and company expenditures
  • Analyze financial performance and identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Assist department leaders with budgeting and financial planning
  • Provide financial recommendations to improve operational efficiency

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all financial reporting requirements
  • Maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets
  • Oversee business licenses, insurance documentation, and regulatory filings
  • Coordinate responses to financial audits and government inquiries

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of accounting or finance experience, preferably within a closely held businesses, family offices, or multi-entity environments
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Previous experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, or Senior Accountant preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment
  • Experience in the construction or contracting industry is a plus
