We're seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to lead our accounting and financial operations within a growing healthcare organization. This role serves as a key partner to executive leadership, driving financial reporting, operational scalability, process improvement, compliance, and long-term business performance. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, executive-level leadership experience, and the ability to build scalable financial infrastructure while supporting organizational growth in a fast-paced and highly regulated environment.
Location: Position is based on-site in our Vienna, VA office
Salary range: $235 - $250k + bonus + equity
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer
Travel: Up to 10%

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide executive leadership and oversight for all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, financial close, and financial reporting functions, ensuring accuracy, scalability, operational excellence, and financial integrity across the organization.
  • Lead the preparation and delivery of timely and accurate financial statements, executive reporting packages, dashboards, and operational analyses that support executive leadership, board-level visibility, and strategic decision-making.
  • Oversee the organization's internal control environment, financial governance, regulatory compliance, and audit activities while proactively identifying financial and operational risks and implementing mitigation strategies to support organizational stability and growth.
  • Partner closely with executive leadership to support enterprise financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, long-range modeling, operational strategy, and organizational growth initiatives.
  • Provide strategic financial guidance and insights related to operational investments, vendor partnerships, business initiatives, contract decisions, and resource allocation to support informed decision-making across the organization.
  • Lead finance transformation and process improvement initiatives, including system optimization, automation, reporting enhancements, and scalable infrastructure development that improve efficiency, visibility, and organizational performance.
  • Oversee cash flow management, liquidity planning, banking relationships, and financial stewardship activities to support operational stability and long-term financial health.
  • Support mergers, acquisitions, integrations, and organizational expansion initiatives through financial due diligence, integration planning, and scalable financial infrastructure development.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with executive leadership, operations, HR, IT, compliance, and other business leaders to strengthen operational alignment, improve organizational performance, and support enterprise-wide strategic initiatives.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing accounting and finance organization by establishing clear expectations, strengthening leadership capabilities, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership by translating complex financial data into actionable business insights that support organizational strategy, operational decision-making, and long-term growth.
  • Support executive leadership, board reporting activities, external audits, and private equity or investor-related financial requests through clear communication, financial insights, and strategic analyses.
  • Ensure adherence to Clarest's Code of Conduct, Compliance policies and procedures, and all applicable federal and state regulatory requirements, while promptly reporting any suspected compliance concerns or violations through appropriate channels.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting , Finance, or related field required
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • MBA, MHA, or other advanced finance or business-related degree preferred
  • CMA or other relevant financial certifications considered a plus
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experiencerequired
  • Prior experience serving in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Director of Accounting, or similar senior finance leadership rolerequired
  • Experience within healthcare, pharmacy, long-term care, or other highly regulated industries strongly preferred
  • Experience leading accounting and finance functions within complex, multi-entityor rapidly growing organizations
  • Strong background in financial reporting, GAAP compliance, internal controls, audit management, and financial operations
  • Experience partnering with executive leadership, auditors, investors, private equity stakeholders, and external business partners
  • Demonstrated success leading finance transformation initiatives, process improvements, ERP implementations, or automation efforts
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, integrations, or organizational growth initiatives preferred
  • Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement models, pharmacy operations, or healthcare finance environments preferred
