Join JAC Metal as a Controller, helping strengthen accounting operations, financial reporting, and steady growth for a hands-on construction company.
Location: Poolville, TX
Position Type: Full-time, in-office position
Pay: $70,000–$95,000 annually, depending on experience
Schedule: Monday–Friday, standard business hours
Reports To: CFO
Supervises: Bookkeeper and Accounts Payable Specialist
OUR CULTURE AND VALUES
We are a faith-driven company guided by principles of integrity, stewardship, teamwork, and service. We believe in doing quality work the right way—treating our customers, partners, and coworkers with respect, accountability, and care. Safety, honesty, and responsibility are central to everything we do, and we strive to create an environment where employees can grow professionally while working with purpose.
POSITION SUMMARY
JAC Metal is seeking a dependable and experienced Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations, strengthen financial reporting, and support intentional company growth. A major requirement for this position is direct experience working with a multi-state company, including payroll, benefits administration, unemployment taxes, audits, and related compliance requirements across multiple states. This role is ideal for someone who can lead the accounting function while still staying close to the details, bringing structure, accuracy, and accountability without overcomplicating practical daily workflows.
The Controller will report to the CFO and oversee the Bookkeeper and Accounts Payable Specialist. This position will help improve accounting processes, support billing and payroll-related records, review financial information for accuracy, and provide leadership with reliable reporting that supports wise business decisions. Because JAC Metal is a growing small-to-mid-sized business, the right person must be willing to lead, review, organize, teach, and jump into the details when needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Lead day-to-day accounting operations while remaining hands-on with accounting details when needed.
·         Oversee, support, and develop the Bookkeeper and Accounts Payable Specialist.
·         Work directly with the CFO on financial reporting, budgets, cash flow, forecasting, and finance department priorities.
·         Review financial statements, general ledger activity, reconciliations, job costing, billing records, and accounting entries for accuracy.
·         Strengthen internal controls, approval workflows, documentation habits, and accountability across accounting processes.
·         Support billing, payroll-related accounting records, vendor records, job-cost documentation, and general accounting administration as needed.
·         Provide knowledgeable support for multi-state payroll, benefits-related records, unemployment tax requirements, audits, registrations, notices, and compliance documentation.
·         Help leadership evaluate whether the open Billing and Payroll Assistant position should be filled or whether responsibilities can be absorbed through improved structure, clearer processes, and department capacity.
·         Maintain confidentiality and professionalism with company, financial, vendor, and employee information.
·         Identify practical process improvements that support accuracy, accountability, communication, and long-term financial health as the company grows.
QUALIFICATIONS
·         Valid U.S. work authorization.
·         Proven accounting leadership experience, such as Controller, Accounting Manager, senior bookkeeper, or similar role.
·         Strong understanding of financial statements, reconciliations, general ledger activity, budgeting, cash flow, and job-cost or project-based accounting.
·         Required experience working with a multi-state company, including payroll coordination, benefits administration, unemployment taxes, audits, and state-specific compliance requirements.
·         Experience supervising, training, or reviewing the work of accounting staff.
·         Strong Excel, Microsoft Office, and accounting software skills, with the ability to improve organization and reporting without overcomplicating daily workflows.
·         Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality, professionalism, and sound judgment.
·         Strong follow-through, communication, problem-solving, and willingness to work hands-on in a small-to-mid-sized business environment.
·         Ability to lead with humility, accountability, and a team-first mindset that fits JAC Metal’s values and culture.
·         Comfortable working onsite in Poolville, TX.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
·         Construction accounting or job-cost accounting experience.
·         Experience with multi-entity accounting or project-based financial reporting.
·         Experience managing or supporting accounting, payroll, tax, or audit processes for employees and business operations across multiple states.
·         Experience improving accounting processes, reporting systems, or internal controls.
·         Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are a plus, but not required.
BENEFITS

·         Sick time begins accruing on the first day of employment.
·         Health, vision, and dental insurance may become available after successfully completing the 90-day probationary period.
·         Paid vacation after 1 year.
·         401(k) benefit available after 6 months of employment, according to company policy.
·         Opportunity to help build and improve the finance department as JAC Metal continues to grow.
