Primary Function

You would be responsible for maintaining and setting up ranges, as well as planning, coordinating, and overseeing range operations for contractors. This position supports Department of State Worldwide Protective Services III (WPS III) Task Orders (TO) in austere environments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the firing range and supervise weapons requalification training in overseas locations.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct weapons requalification training.
  • Ensure that all equipment, weapons, ammunition, and materials are on hand for training.
  • Perform administrative tasks necessary to support range operations.

Job Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must possess a minimum of three (3) years' experience as a range master, this experience must have been earned as part of other federal, state, or local government training assignments.
  • Must possess evidence of formal certification as a firearms instructor.
  • Must attend and successfully complete a supervisory course.
  • Must have a valid U.S. Driver's License.
  • Must have a valid U.S. Passport with no less than 6 months remaining before expiration.
  • Shall be proficient in the ability to speak, write, and communicate in English.

Training (Paid Training):

  • Attend and successfully complete the DOS Non-Protective Security Specialist Basic and Basic Field Firearms Officer's courses. If already completed and/or served on a DOS TO within the last 3 years, will be eligible to deploy directly to TO.

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:

  • Must be approved for a Department of State Medical Clearance.
  • Must be able to do the following: walk, squat, crawl, run, quickly enter/exit vehicles, maneuver around obstacles, carry heavy equipment and personnel, and operate missionessential issued equipment requiring dexterity.
  • Must be able to operate and/or travel in vehicles on improved and unimproved roadways, as well as offroad.
  • Must be able to travel long distances in airplanes, helicopters, and road vehicles.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods with minimal breaks.
  • Must possess no medical or physical impediments to traveling overseas to and within countries considered dangerous or unhealthy.
