Position Summary

Reporting to the Fitness Supervisors and Fitness Coordinator, the Fitness Instructor will be responsible for planning and leading safe, effective and enjoyable exercise classes to participants of all ages. The Fitness Instructor will provide excellent leadership, up-to-date quality instruction and high-energy motivation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and lead safe and effective fitness classes in accordance to your Fitness Instructor Certification.
  • Provide a safe learning environment.
  • Educate participants on correct exercise technique and the importance/benefits of exercise.
  • Participate in all mandatory staff trainings and meetings.
  • Maintain all current certifications and send updated copies to the Fitness Supervisor.
  • Assist in finding class coverage if you are unable to teach your assigned class.
  • Respond to First Aid emergencies in accordance to your First Aid Certification.
  • Complete all necessary forms (accident, incident reports) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Represent the City of Richmond Hill by presenting yourself in a cooperative, organized, enthusiastic and well - groomed manner.
  • Be willing and available to answer questions and queries from participants.
  • Know and understand the policies and procedures of the Community Services Department.
  • Maintain excellent public relations at all time, with staff and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
  • Current Fitness Instructor Specialist or Aquafitness Instructor Certification.
  • Experience teaching Fitness Classes
  • Emergency First Aid with CPR-C/AED.
Required Skills/Knowledge
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Good time management skills.
  • Be familiar with and execute the City of Richmond Hill Fitness emergence procedures.
  • Requires satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check
