Division Information
The Pet Care business unit of Spectrum Brands is based in St. Louis, Missouri with distribution, manufacturing and sales offices throughout the US and globe. Owners of dogs, cats, birds, small animals, fish and reptiles rely on our brands for exceptional value and trusted results. Job Summary
As a contributing member of the leadership team, The Environmental, Health and Safety Manager will own and resolve environmental, health and safety, (EHS) and worker's compensation issues for the Blacksburg manufacturing facility. This position will lead our efforts to provide a safe and healthy workplace for our employees while ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state and federal health and safety regulations. The position will also ensure compliance with all environmental regulations.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
• Provide leadership for environmental, health, safety and sustainability activities in support of local, group, and corporate initiatives.
• Develop, monitor and manage the Velocity EHS safety management system for all Blacksburg activities.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to EHS either by representing, or assisting representation of the company in all contact with regulatory agencies.
• Plan, implement and manage policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
• Plan, implement and manage programs to train managers and employees in work site safety and environmental practices, including but not limited to fire prevention, lockout/tagout, hazardous waste handling, spill prevention and control, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, and hazard communication.
• Provide leadership and direction for the plant-wide safety Committee, including facilitation of safety campaigns and safety-related communication.
• Serves as site emergency coordinator and create, implement and lead Emergency Action Plans; including coordination with local Police and Fire Departments, and scheduling of emergency drills.
• Ensures compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management and EPA Risk Management Program; including facilitation and scheduling of Process Hazard Analyses, submittal of Risk Management Plan, and training of affected personnel.
• Conducts facility specific audits to review site EHS compliance and improvement plans; reports results to site and corporate leadership and implements correction and improvement procedures in collaboration with employees.
• Perform, submit and maintain all environmental calculations and reporting as required by federal, state and local regulatory agencies.
• Compile, maintain and submit safety and accident related statistics required by corporation and regulatory agencies.
• In collaboration with appropriate leadership, assess EHS-related issues involving New Product Development and new chemical review
• Support the company-wide workers' compensation program, by providing accident related information, investigation, corrective plans and return to work/modified work suggestion in an effort to reduce employee lost time.
• Assist in monitoring the skills and capabilities of those assisting with or leading EHS programs at each of our operating facilities, recommend and/or conduct training, and provide day-to-day coaching, feedback and functional direction to these individuals.
• Model the Spectrum Brands core values of Trust, Accountability and Collaboration to achieve service excellence, meet and exceed organizational objectives and support fiscal responsibility.
• Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Profile
• Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Engineering or equivalent field of study, or
• Minimum 5 years' experience in an EHS role with demonstrated knowledge of applicable environmental health and safety regulations.
• Manufacturing facility experience required.
Required Skills
• Must have strong analytical skills to determine root cause analysis, resolve operational failures and set corrective action/course.
• Ability to analyze, plan and manage to goal attainment.
• Must be a driver of EHS requirements and capable of coordinating the design, build, and implementation of quality solutions to problems.
• Must have strong ability to work as an individual contributor and as a facilitator for work teams.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate and collaborate with site leadership.

• Must have demonstrated success in managing systems and processes.
