Job description

Role:
We have an immediate opening for a Garage Door Installer Helper located in the Edmonton branch.  Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, the helper will work as part of a two-person crew, this position will assist in the service and/or installation of overhead doors while learning on the job from the Lead Technician.  This role is a permanent, full time position with opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in a Service/Installation Industry; previous experience with door automation considered an asset
  • Minimum 3 - 6 months' experience in a relevant trade (i.e. construction, welding, millwright etc.)
  • Resourcefulness, integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to work in a team environment
  • Any relevant safety training and tickets is an asset. (WHMIS, Fall Protection, First Aid, etc.)
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Must be able to work outside in all different weather conditions, including cold and extreme heat. Lifting, pulling, climbing, standing, sitting, lying down, squatting and kneeling and managing equipment and tools required
  • Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment screening requirements including but not limited to, drug, alcohol and health assessment
  • Possess a valid driver's license and clean drivers abstract 
  • Possessing resourcefulness, integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to work in a team environment
  • Above average mechanical aptitude
  • New hire candidates will be required to provide a current Driver's Abstract from the province which the position is located, at their own cost
  • Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment screening requirements including background check, drug, alcohol and health assessment

Responsibilities:

  • Participating in installing Sectional (includes FinDoor), Rolling steel, Fire Doors, High Speed Doors, Security Grilles, Roll Shutters, Bifold
  • D&A Testing for site access or post incident
  • Championing safety standards with a strong safety mindset
  • Working with hand tools, electric tools, lifts, and ladders
  • Maintain a professional manner during regular interaction with warehouse staff, construction Project Managers, customers, other trades, and safety personnel
  • Taking direction from the Lead Technician and providing support
  • Out of town travel for installation and service work, not limited to weekdays- without notice
  • Focus on quality workmanship
  • Actively participating in learning the skill with intention to progress to a Lead Technician
  • Participate in training and execution of welding for installation or repairs if required
  • Regularly communicate and coordinate with the scheduler on problem solving, provide solutions and required parts if needed.
  • Effectively assess job scope with a Lead Technician and note any discrepancies to your scheduler immediately- ie: product warranty, site conditions, and safety
  • Complete all required paperwork daily and submitted on time at the end of each work day- ie: timesheets, FHLA's, job workorder with clear notes and part #'s
  • Providing Service, and diagnose problems, provide solutions, and carry out required work on overhead doors
  • If needed, on the on-call rotation for Service
  • The ability to transport product on trailers and manlifts (on trailers) to and from sites safely.  
  • Accountable to making sure safety training and tickets are up to date and valid- clearly communicate to scheduler on required renewals- such as Fall Protection, OSSA Elevated Work Platform, Standard First Aid, CSTS, etc) 
  • Wearing a hard hat and other PPE as required is mandatory for this safety sensitive role.
