What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Infusion Nurse, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Infusion Nurse, you need a solid background in intravenous therapy, patient assessment, and medication administration, usually supported by an active RN license and clinical experience. Familiarity with infusion pumps, electronic medical records (EMRs), and certifications such as CRNI (Certified Registered Nurse Infusion) are often required. Attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to reassure and educate patients are standout soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure safe, effective infusion treatments and positive patient experiences in often complex care environments.

What job pays $400,000 a year without a degree?

High-paying jobs that can reach $400,000 annually without a degree often include roles such as experienced sales executives, real estate brokers, or entrepreneurs in certain industries. These positions typically require extensive experience, strong skills, and a proven track record of success rather than formal education credentials.

What is the difference between Infusion vs Pharmacist?

AspectInfusionPharmacist
CredentialsCertification in infusion therapy, nursing licenseDoctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), state licensure
Work EnvironmentHospitals, clinics, infusion centersPharmacies, hospitals, healthcare facilities
Industry UsageAdministering IV medications, patient careDispensing medications, patient counseling

Infusion specialists focus on administering IV therapies and patient care in clinical settings, often requiring nursing credentials. Pharmacists prepare and dispense medications, providing expert drug knowledge. While both roles are integral to patient treatment, infusion roles are more hands-on with IV therapies, whereas pharmacists focus on medication management and counseling.

What are infusion nurses?

Infusion nurses are specialized registered nurses who administer medications and fluids directly into a patient’s bloodstream through intravenous (IV) therapy. They manage all aspects of infusion therapy, including preparing and monitoring IVs, assessing patients for reactions or complications, and educating patients about their treatment. Infusion nurses work in various settings, such as hospitals, outpatient clinics, and patients’ homes, and often collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective care.

What are some common challenges faced by infusion nurses, and how can they be managed on the job?

Infusion nurses often encounter challenges such as managing difficult intravenous (IV) access, ensuring accurate medication administration, and monitoring for adverse reactions during infusions. To address these, infusion nurses should stay updated on best practices for vein assessment, use advanced IV access devices when necessary, and maintain clear communication with patients and the healthcare team. Continuous education, collaboration with pharmacists and physicians, and adherence to safety protocols are essential for minimizing complications and providing high-quality patient care.

Job description

See your work in a new light.

At LUX Infusion, we're reimagining infusion care to be more human, supportive, and connected. Inspired by lux—meaning light - we guide patients, providers, and partners through complex therapies with clarity, compassion, and confidence.

As a clinician-led, U.S.-based organization, we put people first - helping patients feel seen and supported through faster therapy starts, dedicated care coordination, and meaningful collaboration. Our commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and advancement (IDEA) is central to our culture, ensuring every team member feels valued and empowered to make a difference.

We're looking for an Infusion Suite Nurse who wants their work to mean something — a licensed Registered Nurse who brings clinical expertise, empathy, and purpose to every patient interaction.

Why This Role Matters

The Infusion Suite Nurse plays a vital role in delivering safe, personalized intravenous therapies while supporting patients through complex diagnoses and treatment plans. This role is often the steady presence patients rely on — combining technical excellence with calm, compassionate care.

In this role, you'll contribute to work that:

  • Helps patients feel seen, supported, and confident during infusion therapy
  • Ensures safe administration and monitoring of high‑tech IV medications
  • Supports physicians and care teams through collaboration and clear communication
  • Strengthens a patient‑first, clinician‑led organization focused on outcomes

Every infusion, every teaching moment, and every assessment helps make the patient journey brighter.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Safely administer intravenous infusion therapies in an infusion suite setting
  • Monitor patients before, during, and after infusions, identifying and managing adverse reactions as needed
  • Perform IV insertions for all age groups, including peripheral access, PICC lines, and Port‑a‑Cath management
  • Collaborate with physicians and the clinical care team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans
  • Provide tailored education to patients and caregivers regarding diagnoses, medications, infusion therapy, and post‑infusion care
  • Maintain accurate, detailed clinical documentation and patient records
  • Assist the Clinical Nurse Manager with patient assessments and nurse/patient education when requested
  • Coordinate care with interdisciplinary partners (e.g., dietitians, social services) to support holistic patient needs
  • Manage infusion scheduling and support efficient patient flow
  • Respond to patient questions and follow‑ups with empathy and clarity
  • Focus on positive patient outcomes through consistent, high‑quality nursing care

What We're Looking For

You may be a great fit if you bring:

  • A deep commitment to patient advocacy and compassionate care
  • Strong communication skills with patients, families, and clinical teams
  • Confidence delivering IV therapies and managing infusion protocols
  • Comfort educating patients with clarity and sensitivity to anxiety levels
  • A desire to work in a setting that values both empathy and high clinical standards

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license with the ability to practice in New York State
  • Proficiency with IV insertions across all age groups, including PICC and Port‑a‑Cath management
  • Experience performing nursing assessments and maintaining detailed clinical records
  • Experience providing high‑quality patient care and supporting patient satisfaction
  • Knowledge and experience using IV pumps
  • Basic computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Office and clinical systems)
  • Ability to communicate professionally, positively, and serve as a patient advocate

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) or more years of nursing experience with emphasis on IV insertions, SubQ and IM injections, and oral medication administration

You don't need to check every box — we care just as much about how you care for patients as your years of experience.

Why LUX Infusion

At LUX Infusion, we believe infusion care deserves more light — more warmth, more clarity, and more connection.

Here, you'll find:

  • Purpose‑driven clinical work with direct patient impact
  • A patient‑first, clinician‑led environment
  • Supportive leadership and collaborative care teams
  • A strong focus on safety, quality, and professional growth
  • The opportunity to build meaningful relationships with patients over time

Come help deliver infusion care that feels personal, safe, and deeply human — and see what's possible when care comes first.
