POSITION STATUS : 0.30 | Temporary

SALARY RANGE : BU79 | SR20

SALARY RATE: $59.14 (Hourly) based on the FTE

This position is located in the Infusion/Chemotherapy Center of the Oncology Clinic & Infusion/Chemotherapy Center Unit, of Kona Community Hospital, a 94 bed acute care facility located on the island of Hawaii, serving as the West Hawaii Regional Center, which also includes Kohala Hospital. It is one of 12 facilities within the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation. The Oncology Clinic provides oncology services for the island/county of Hawaii, which includes consultation, treatment, chemotherapy, related infusion therapies and medical oncology follow-up. The Infusion/Chemotherapy Center is responsible for the administration of IV outpatient infusion services and ambulatory nursing care on a referral basis. This includes but is not limited to chemotherapy, antibiotics, and transfusions of blood products, I.M. and S.Q. injections.

The RPN III coordinates nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with other staff and departments in maintaining standards of nursing care; follows established policies, procedures or specific instructions. This position may be required to work night shifts, weekends, and holidays.

THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. While not required, graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.

NURSING EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of professional nursing work experience on an inpatient medical-surgical or critical care setting, or an outpatient infusion/chemotherapy setting.

LICENSE REQUIRED: License to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.

CERTIFICATION : Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers is required at time of appointment. ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification will be obtained within six months, if candidate does not already have certification.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

KNOWLEDGE OF: Nursing theory and practice; biological, physical, social and medicinal sciences as related to nursing theory and practice; nursing techniques and procedures; nursing literature and current trends and developments in nursing.

ABILITY TO: Apply nursing theory and practices to planning and giving nursing care; recognize, interpret and evaluate symptoms of patient's condition and take appropriate action; direct the work of nursing assistants; work effectively and cooperatively with patients, family members, medical staff and employees.

The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection.
