Job description
The Specialty Infusion Nurse (RPN) is responsible for administering specialty medications via IV infusion, injection, or oral routes to patients in a clinical setting. Working under the direction of the Manager, Infusion Services & Clinical Practice, this role ensures the safe and effective delivery of complex therapies in alignment with established protocols and standards of nursing practice. The ideal candidate brings a high level of clinical expertise, flexibility, and a patient-centered approach to care.
- Administer specialty biologic and pharmaceutical therapies in a clinic environment (including IV infusions, SC/IM injections, and oral medications) in accordance with program protocols and product monographs.
- Conduct thorough pre-treatment assessments and ongoing monitoring during and after infusions to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Accurately complete documentation, including infusion records, adverse event reports, and nursing assessments, in compliance with regulatory and clinic standards.
- Educate patients and caregivers on medication, expected outcomes, side effects, and post-treatment care.
- Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams including physicians, pharmacists, case managers, and administrative staff.
- Participate in regular training sessions and maintain up-to-date knowledge of clinical protocols and specialty medications.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of clinic equipment, supplies, and infection control practices.
- Communicate scheduling and drug delivery requirements to patients and partners as needed.
- Travel to other local clinics may be required occasionally to support operational needs.
- Adhere to all organizational policies, nursing SOPs, and Health and Safety protocols.
TRAVEL & TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS
This role supports multiple infusion clinic locations. As such, the successful candidate must have reliable transportation and be comfortable traveling to varying clinic sites within the local region as operational needs arise.
- Ability to travel between clinic locations on scheduled workdays
- Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle
- Flexibility to support different clinic locations with advance notice
