What does an infrastructure manager do?
An infrastructure manager works with an organization’s IT department to plan, design, and implement the technology ecosystem. Your responsibilities in this career include a range of other tasks to prepare and maintain the IT infrastructure. Duties can involve working with either hardware, software, or both, depending on the size of the business. You can also specialize in a particular aspect of the network. Your primary goal is to guarantee the security and integrity of the system. Some infrastructure manager positions also focus on budget, periodic reviews, or negotiations with vendors.

What is the difference between Infrastructure Manager vs Network Engineer?
| Aspect | Infrastructure Manager | Network Engineer |
|---|---|---|
| Certifications | ITIL, PMP, Cisco certifications | CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+ |
| Work Environment | Oversees entire IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, and networks | Focuses on designing, implementing, and maintaining network systems |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Common in large enterprises, data centers, and IT service providers | Found in organizations needing network setup and support |
While both roles involve IT infrastructure, the Infrastructure Manager oversees the entire infrastructure ecosystem, including networks, servers, and storage, whereas the Network Engineer specializes specifically in network design, implementation, and troubleshooting. The Infrastructure Manager has broader responsibilities, often managing teams and strategic planning, while the Network Engineer focuses on network-specific tasks.

The Delivery team partners with utilities and infrastructure organizations to define technology strategies, improve business processes, implement enterprise and operational systems, and support digital transformation initiatives. We work closely with client stakeholders to improve business performance and enable data-driven decision making through modern technology solutions.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams of consultants, engineers, data specialists, and technology experts to deliver practical, data-driven solutions.

- Present findings, recommendations, and project updates to management and executive audiences.
- Support organizational change and adoption activities associated with technology transformation initiatives
Project and Program Support
- Lead workstream planning and coordination activities.
- Support project governance processes including schedule management, issue tracking, risk management, and status reporting.
- Coordinate activities among client teams, technology vendors, and Black & Veatch project resources.

Business Development
- Support proposal development, scope definition, and fee estimates.
- Participate in client pursuits and business development opportunities.
- Contribute to development of methodologies, tools, thought leadership, and reusable consulting assets.
