Job description

Electrical Estimator
This is a full-time W-2 contract (40 hours/week). This opportunity is available in Indianapolis, IN, Portland, OR, or Phoenix, AZ.
Summary
Flux Resources is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to join one of our clients. In this role, you will prepare detailed electrical cost estimates, validate contractor pricing, and support project budgeting for complex construction projects. You'll work closely with engineers, architects, contractors, and project teams to develop accurate estimates throughout the project lifecycle while ensuring budgets align with current market conditions.
The ideal candidate has strong experience performing quantity takeoffs, evaluating contractor bids, and developing independent cost estimates for commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Estimating
  • Prepare detailed electrical cost estimates using project drawings, specifications, and contract documents
  • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs from design and construction documents
  • Develop independent "should-cost" estimates to validate contractor pricing
  • Analyze labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs
  • Utilize current market pricing and industry cost databases to produce accurate estimates
Bid Analysis & Cost Validation
  • Review and reconcile contractor bid submissions against project scope and budget
  • Analyze pricing discrepancies and explain cost variances
  • Validate trade pricing using current market conditions and historical cost data
  • Understand union labor agreements and trade construction cost standards
  • Support budget development throughout project planning and execution
Project Coordination
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and project managers to clarify project scope
  • Build strong working relationships with design consultants and project stakeholders
  • Participate in estimating reviews and cost reconciliation meetings
  • Assist senior staff with estimating strategies and project planning
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain organized estimating files and project documentation
  • Support development and maintenance of cost databases and historical pricing libraries
  • Prepare estimate comparisons, cost reports, and reconciliation summaries
  • Ensure estimating documentation complies with company standards
Additional Responsibilities
  • Conduct project site visits and field walks as required
  • Travel to client project sites as needed
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating team
  • Perform additional duties assigned by project leadership
Our Ideal Candidate
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5-10 years of electrical estimating experience
  • Experience preparing detailed construction cost estimates
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Electrical construction methods
    • Quantity takeoffs
    • Construction drawings and specifications
    • Union labor and trade cost standards
  • Experience performing bid analysis and cost reconciliation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and web-based project management tools
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience estimating commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of current electrical material and labor market pricing
  • Experience maintaining cost databases and historical estimating records
  • Familiarity with industry estimating software and digital takeoff platforms
  • Ability to mentor junior estimating staff and provide technical guidance
  • Experience supporting large capital construction programs
Compensation & Benefits
  • The pay for this W-2 position ranges from $50.00 - $67.00 per hour.
