Inbound Sales Associate information

What is an inbound sales associate?

Inbound Sales Associates are professionals who handle incoming customer inquiries, typically via phone, email, or online chat, with the goal of converting these leads into sales. They provide information about products or services, answer customer questions, and guide potential buyers through the purchasing process. Unlike outbound sales roles, inbound sales associates focus on customers who have already shown interest, making their approach more consultative and service-oriented. Their responsibilities also include maintaining customer records and meeting sales targets set by their organization.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an inbound sales associate?

To excel as an Inbound Sales Associate, you need strong communication skills, product knowledge, and basic sales techniques, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software, telephony systems, and sales tracking tools is typically required. Active listening, problem-solving, and a customer-focused attitude are standout soft skills in this role. These abilities are crucial for converting leads, building rapport, and achieving sales targets in a competitive environment.

What are common challenges faced by inbound sales associates, and how can they be overcome?

Inbound Sales Associates often encounter challenges such as handling high call volumes, addressing diverse customer needs, and meeting sales targets under tight deadlines. To overcome these, it’s important to develop strong product knowledge, active listening skills, and efficient time management. Regular training sessions, supportive team environments, and leveraging CRM tools can also help associates stay organized and improve conversion rates. Collaborating closely with marketing and customer service teams further enhances the ability to provide personalized solutions and exceed customer expectations.

Job description

Receiving & Stocking Associate (Seasonal, Aug–Dec) — Hilltop Sports
Greenville, MI · Seasonal (Aug–Dec), with possibility of conversion to full-time · $15.00–$20.00/hr
About Us
Hilltop Sports is a four-season, full-service store specializing in hunting, fishing, firearms, and outdoor gear. We're family owned and operated, and we've been part of the West Michigan community for over 35 years. We pride ourselves on top-notch customer service and a wide range of products to meet every outdoor enthusiast's needs.

Position Summary
Hilltop Sports is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Receiving & Stocking Associate to join our team at our Greenville, MI location. This is a seasonal position running August through December, with the possibility of conversion to full-time for the right team member. You'll be the engine behind a well-run store — receiving inbound shipments, checking in merchandise accurately, and keeping our shelves stocked and organized so customers always find what they came for. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in accuracy, likes staying busy, and works well both independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive inbound shipments and verify contents against packing slips and purchase orders

  • Unpack, inspect, and check in merchandise, flagging any shortages or damage

  • Tag, price, and stage product for the sales floor and stockroom

  • Stock and replenish shelves, keeping displays full, faced, and organized

  • Log incoming firearms into the bound book / acquisition records accurately (training provided)

  • Process outbound shipments, transfers, and returns

  • Keep the receiving area and basement clean, organized, and safe

  • Assist on the sales floor and at the front counter as needed during busy periods

  • Perform light housekeeping and cleaning to maintain a tidy work environment

  • Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager

Required Qualifications

  • Reliable and punctual — you show up and follow through

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with paperwork and record-keeping

  • Ability to lift and move inventory (up to 75 lbs) and stay active throughout the shift

  • Basic computer and scanner skills for check-in and inventory (we'll train you on our systems)

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and take direction well

  • Willing to learn our products and receiving procedures

  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays

  • Because this role handles incoming firearms, you must be legally eligible to possess firearms under state and federal law

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous receiving, warehouse, stocking, or inventory experience

  • Familiarity with purchase orders, packing slips, or inventory systems

  • Comfort staying organized and efficient in a fast-paced setting

  • Interest in hunting, fishing, and outdoor activities

Compensation & Perks

  • Hourly rate: $15.00–$20.00 -depending upon experience

  • 30/60/90-day review policy, with the possibility of pay rate adjustments

  • Seasonal (August–December) with the possibility of conversion to full-time

  • Employee discounts on store merchandise

  • A dynamic, outdoor-oriented retail environment

  • Valuable experience in receiving, inventory, and retail operations

How to Apply
If you're interested in joining our team and meet the qualifications above, please submit your resume and a brief cover letter through Indeed. We look forward to hearing from you!
