Job Summary
The Logistics Manager is responsible for overseeing all inbound and outbound transportation activities, ensuring efficiency, complaint, and cost-effective movement of goods to and from the organization. This role leads shipping operations, manages carrier relationships, and coordinates inbound logistics from suppliers in partnership with Procurement to support uninterrupted supply and customer fulfillment. The Logistics Manager serves as the primary owner of logistics-related customer issues, including shipment delays, damages, cold chain, documentation errors, and delivery discrepancies. This role drives root cause analysis and implements corrective actions to improve service levels and reduce recurring issues. Operating within a regulated environment, the position ensures all transportation activities comply with FDA, QSR, ISO, and applicable import/export requirements, including customs coordination and proper documentation. The role partners closely with the Warehouse Operations Supervisor to ensure seamless handoff between inbound transportation, receiving, and outbound distribution, while maintaining clear accountability between functions. Through strong leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and data-driven decision-making, the Logistics Manager enhances delivery performance, controls transportation costs, and strengthens overall supply chain reliability.
Key Duties
Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Lead all outbound shipping operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant delivery of finished goods to customers and distribution partners
  • Coordinate inbound logistics from suppliers, partnering with Procurement to ensure timely material delivery and resolve transportation-related issues
  • Manage carrier relationships, including parcel, LTL, FTL, and international freight providers, to optimize cost, service, and delivery performance
  • Negotiate freight rates and evaluate carrier performance based on key metrics such as on-time delivery, cost, and service quality
  • Oversee import/export activities, including coordination with customs brokers and freight forwarders to ensure timely clearance and compliance with trade regulations
  • Ensure all shipping and transportation activities comply with FDA, QSR, ISO, and company policies, including proper documentation, labeling, and traceability
  • Own and resolve logistics-related customer complaints, including late shipments, damages, and delivery discrepancies, ensuring timely communication and resolution
  • Conduct root cause analysis on shipping and transportation issues, implementing corrective and preventive actions to improve performance
  • Partner cross-functionally with Warehouse Operations, Procurement, Customer Service, Quality, and Manufacturing to align logistics activities with business needs
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators, including but not limited to on-time delivery, transit times, freight costs, carrier performance, and complaint trends
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service levels across logistics operations
  • Ensure accurate and timely system transactions within ERP and shipping systems related to transportation and shipment tracking
  • Lead and develop shipping personnel, setting performance expectations and fostering a culture of accountability, compliance, and continuous improvement

Other Duties/Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift on a daily basis, up to 75 pounds of supplies or components.
  • Ability to walk up and down flights of stairs throughout the workday in a multi-location facility.
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time, reach, stoop, lift, bend, push and pull carts and utility bins throughout the course of the work shift.
  • Ability to work inside refrigerators and freezers with the temperature ranging from 2C to -80C.
  • Must be able to wear protective equipment (lab coats, safety glasses, latex gloves, and hair nets).
  • Must be able to analyze, concentrate and interpret processes routinely through the course of the work shift and remain focused in a fast-paced open environment throughout the course of the workday.

Qualifications
Minimum Education or Equivalent Experience Required/Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Logistics, Business, or related field plus 5+ years of experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain operations; or ≥10 years of equivalent experience in logistics and distribution environments required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in shipping, transportation, or logistics management, including carrier management and freight coordination
  • Experience managing inbound and outbound logistics, including supplier shipments and customer deliveries in a manufacturing or regulated environment (FDA experience preferred)
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems (Infor XA/MAPICS preferred) and transportation/shipping systems required
  • Experience with domestic and international shipping, including customs processes, documentation, and coordination with brokers and freight forwarders preferred
  • Knowledge of Harmonized Tariff Codes (HTS), import/export regulations, and resources such as USDA IREGS strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience managing logistics-related customer issues, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate freight costs, carrier performance, and service levels
  • Experience with cold chain logistics, including temperature-controlled shipping, packaging, and monitoring requirements
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support shipping schedules, carrier coordination, and issue resolution
