Job Title: Packaging TechnicianJob Description

The Packaging Technician plays a key role in the assembly, labeling, and quality control of clinical pharmaceutical supplies in a clean room environment. This temporary position follows established standard operating procedures and supervisory instructions to ensure every product meets strict customer and regulatory specifications. The role involves performing most phases of clinical packaging, including manual and automated processes, while still working under guidance in certain areas to maintain the highest standards of safety and accuracy.

Responsibilities
  • Review batch paperwork and written instructions to fully understand and accurately perform packaging procedures required for each clinical study.
  • Package and label syringes, bottles, boxes, and cases according to defined protocols and quality standards.
  • Clean packaging rooms and machinery as needed to maintain a clean room environment and comply with cleanliness and safety requirements.
  • Perform manual and automated filling and packaging of bottled pharmaceutical products independently, ensuring labels are correctly applied and quality checks are completed throughout the process.
  • Apply labels and ensure proper drug placement using various sealing and packaging machinery, following all applicable procedures.
  • Organize and assemble clinical supplies while ensuring accurate and consistent label placement on all components.
  • Accurately count and prepare packages, including pill bottles and syringe packs, to ensure correct quantities and proper packaging for clinical use.
  • Perform final checks on work in-process and finished products to verify accuracy, completeness, and quality before packing goods into appropriately labeled containers and boxes.
  • Assist in staging components for production runs and participate in reconciliation of components after packaging activities are completed.
  • Support general warehouse and production activities related to packing, manufacturing packaging, quality inspection, filling, general labor, labeling, assembly, inventory tasks, picking, and material handling.
  • Work effectively on assembly and production lines in a high-volume production environment, maintaining pace and accuracy to meet production goals.
  • Use RF scanners or similar equipment as needed to track materials, inventory, or orders in a manufacturing environment.
  • Collaborate with production operations, engineering, inventory, and quality assurance personnel to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of packaging activities.
  • Interact professionally with client personnel who may observe packaging operations, maintaining a clean, organized, and compliant work area at all times.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to identify and prevent labeling or packaging errors that could impact product safety and patient outcomes.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a cold room environment approximately 10 hours per week, with temperatures typically between 35°F and 46°F.
  • Willingness and ability to work mandatory overtime as needed based on production requirements.

Work Environment

The role is based in a pharmaceutical packaging department within a controlled clean room environment. Employees work on structured shifts: first shift typically runs from 6:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., Monday through Friday, and second shift typically runs from 2:45 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with frequent additional hours on Fridays from approximately 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Overtime is currently mandatory and generally scheduled in 6-hour blocks, which may result in working 4 to 5 extra days per month, including Fridays, Saturdays, and occasional Sundays, depending on shift and production needs. The clean room requires strict adherence to gowning procedures, including wearing a full gown, shoe covers, hairnet, beard net (as applicable), and safety glasses at all times; prescription safety glasses are not provided. Some work is performed in a cold room environment at approximately 35°F to 46°F, with appropriate cold weather personal protective equipment supplied and a pay premium for all hours worked in the cold room. The facility operates as a high-volume production and manufacturing environment, with assembly lines, packaging machinery, and inventory systems that may include RF scanners. Employees regularly interact with internal teams in production operations, engineering, inventory, and quality assurance, and may occasionally be observed by external client personnel during packaging operations.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.80/hr.
