Key Objectives

Reusable Packaging Platform- Provide engineering support for packaging equipment and materials (as it relates toprimary, secondary, and tertiary packaging), including:

  • Supporting product launches - provide engineering support for the delivery of new packaging lines andcommercialization of new products.
  • Identification, evaluation, and assessment of new technologies for thermoformed and injection moldedpackaging.
  • Implementation of packaging best practices and/or packaging functional standards that enable global replicationof processes, equipment, and systems.
  • Continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support the development and execution of protocols in collaboration with QA and Technical Services.
  • Serve as a reusable packaging SME (Subject Matter Expert) for global initiatives, including network harmonization, packaging standardization, and line readiness activities.
  • Sustainability exploration and contributing towards Lilly corporate goals.

Capital Project Support - Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Material Management and/or Process Engineeringroles on major capital projects

  • Develop budget proposals for capital projects and seek required approvals.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and operations teams to assess project requirements, definespecifications, and select appropriate packaging solutions and equipment.

Knowledge Sharing

  • Offer continuous technical support to packaging engineering teams across global sites, fostering knowledgeexchange and best practices.
  • Provide formal and informal mentorship, guidance to enhance the skills and knowledge of engineering teams,fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

Global Technical Support

  • Provide packaging technical support to all Lilly packaging operations with respect to materials, equipment andprocesses on an as needed basis consultation.
  • Work under limited supervision, using expertise to support the design and implementation of new or modifiedequipment, ensuring compliance with engineering and qualification requirements.
  • Conduct and oversee revisions of engineering functional and design standards, ensuring alignment and compliance with local procedures, design, and guidelines.
  • Assist packaging sites globally with technical evaluation, technology assessments, and specific problemresolution, including troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Develop technical connections within global sites, (IDM Engineering, Process, Automation, Global Robotics, andGlobal Packaging, Fergersheim, Sesto, IDAP, IPM, etc.) to seek out and implement equipment and processimprovements, while collaborating with technical groups to support the design, evaluation, and approval of newtechnology introductions, process improvements, qualification protocols, and related documentation.
  • Assist in technical assessments of packaging operations (Lilly and alliance partners) and packaging materialsuppliers. Provide consultation in support of capital projects involving packaging equipment and/or facilities.

Vendor Management: Work with suppliers and vendors to source materials, prototype designs, and scale up productionof reusable packaging solutions.
Project Management: Lead and manage multiple packaging projects from concept to implementation, ensuring timelydelivery within budget.
Explore and identify opportunities for implementing reusable packaging materials and sustainable solutions that align withLilly's sustainability goals.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Package Engineering, Engineering, or another STEM-related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in packaging, parenteral, wet or dry
  • Experience with design and development of reusable packaging

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate's education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$66,000 - $171,600

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
