Director of Human Resources

Location: Garden City Hospital – Garden City, Michigan
Employment Type: Full-Time | Exempt

Garden City Hospital is seeking an experienced Human Resources Director to provide strategic and operational HR leadership within a fast-paced acute care hospital environment. This role partners closely with executive leadership to drive employee relations, labor management, workforce strategy, compliance, and HR operations while developing a strong, visible presence throughout the organization and community.


  • Lead employee relations activities including investigations, conflict resolution, grievance management, and disciplinary actions
  • Partner closely with executive leadership regarding organizational changes, workforce strategy, and HR implications of operational decisions
  • Drive onboarding, orientation, and employee integration initiatives to improve retention, engagement, and workforce stability
  • Develop and implement employee retention strategies focused on engagement, culture, employee experience, and workforce development
  • Analyze workforce metrics including turnover, overtime, FTE utilization, and labor trends to drive operational improvements
  • Administer employee programs, engagement initiatives, and HR services that support employee satisfaction and organizational success
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to hospital leadership on labor relations, compliance, workforce planning, and organizational development while leveraging support and partnership from corporate HR resources
  • Lead, develop, and mentor the local HR team while driving cross-training and building organizational capability
  • Ensure personnel files, documentation, and HR processes remain compliant and audit-ready, including maintaining HFAP readiness

Education and Work Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree required.
  2. Master's degree preferred.
  3. 3 Years of related healthcare experience required.
  4. Must be familiar with the hospital organization; functions of various departments; current personnel practices and techniques, including review techniques; training methods; and job analysis.
  5. Familiar with the labor market, laws, wage and hour regulations, and ERISA guidelines preferred.
  6. Knowledge of state and federal wage and hour required.
  7. Familiar with Joint Commission and HFAP standards.
