What is an in house nanny?

In house nannies are childcare professionals who live with the family they work for, providing care and supervision for the children in the household. Their responsibilities often include preparing meals, helping with homework, organizing activities, and sometimes light housekeeping related to the children. In house nannies typically work full-time and may have flexible hours based on the family's needs. This arrangement allows for a close relationship with the children and offers convenience and peace of mind for parents. Compensation and specific duties can vary depending on the family's requirements and the nanny's experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an in house nanny, and why are they important?

To thrive as an In House Nanny, you need experience in childcare, basic first aid knowledge, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with child safety systems, baby monitors, and sometimes CPR certification are typically required. Patience, strong communication, and adaptability are vital soft skills for building trust with both children and parents. These skills ensure a safe, nurturing environment and support the healthy development of children in a home setting.

How does an in house nanny typically coordinate daily activities and routines with parents?

An in-house nanny usually works closely with parents to establish and maintain consistent daily routines for the children, such as meal times, naps, school runs, and extracurricular activities. Regular communication, through daily check-ins or a shared schedule, helps ensure everyone is on the same page regarding expectations, child development milestones, and any changes in plans. Nannies often provide feedback on the children's progress and well-being, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. This partnership allows the nanny to adapt to the family's needs while maintaining structure for the children.

Job description

AUSTIN, TX (LOCAL CANDIDATES ONLY) - Central Austin family seeking a FULL-TIME LIVE-OUT NANNY for their 6-year-old son, who will be starting kindergarten in the fall, and their 10-year-old daughter, who will be entering 5th grade. This family is active, busy, and full of life, and they are looking for someone who can match that energy and truly embrace the adventure of raising school-aged kids.

The family's beloved nanny of three years is moving on, and they are hoping to find someone equally warm and caring who is ready to step into a meaningful role. Mom and dad both work full-time with demanding schedules and are in the office four days a week, so they are counting on their nanny to be a steady, organized, and enthusiastic presence for their children.

The schedule is 11 am - 7 pm. Primary childcare hours are 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM following school pickup, with availability beginning at 11:00 AM to assist on the front end of the day before the kids are out. Children are in school until approximately 3:00 to 3:30 PM. The ideal candidate is energetic, organized, and loves getting kids out of the house for activities, sports, and exploring the city. Homework support and managing extracurricular schedules will be a core part of the day-to-day rhythm.

Duties include children's laundry, maintaining kids' rooms, light household tasks, meal prep, and grocery coordination for the family. There is one elderly cat in the home who simply enjoys the company. The candidate must have their own clean and safe vehicle and a clean driving record. The family will reimburse for gas and mileage.

The family is looking forward to increasing their international travel with the children and would welcome a candidate who is open to traveling with them. This is a bonus, not a requirement.

The role includes industry-standard 10 PTO days + 5 sick days. Candidates must be up to date on vaccines including Tdap, Covid, MMR, and Flu, and must be willing to sign an NDA for family privacy. Bilingual candidates are a wonderful bonus, with Spanish, French, German, and Japanese being of particular interest, though any second language is welcome. Start date is mid-August or ASAP for the right fit. Pay is $35-40+ gross per hour, commensurate with experience.
