Job Description


1. Student Organizations. Manage student organization programming in a manner that advances student development and strengthens student engagement.

  • Advise and support students in the creation of new student organizations, including membership development, advisor assignment, constitution development and approval.
  • Provide training and resources to student organization officers and advisers on University and State policies.
  • Oversee the student organization registration process and maintain the student organization directory to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and effective campus engagement.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to support student organization event planning, travel processes, and campus engagement opportunities, including student organization fairs.
  • Manage purchasing and reconciliation and regularly review organizational finances in collaboration with the Student Senate Treasurer to ensure accountability and proper stewardship of funds.
  • Develop, interpret, and implement University policies and procedures governing student organizations, while enforcing standards and accountability measures to ensure compliance

2. Event Management. Manage the non-academic reservations of Somsen Auditorium, Kryzsko Commons Student Union and adjacent outdoor spaces particularly the Kryzsko Courtyard; and Gazebo.

  • Participate in event planning by meeting with internal and external clients to assess event needs, communicate building policies and available support amenities, and clarify event expectations and operational requirements.
  • Process space utilization requests, develop room diagrams using scheduling software, and coordinate review and final distribution with clients and operations staff.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable expert for the room scheduling software, ensuring campus event details are accurately entered, maintained, and updated within the system.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve event-related issues (e.g., setups, reservations, A/V) and provide on-site support for high-profile events as needed.

3. Department Collaboration. Participate as a part of the greater Student Union & Activities staff team and utilize a student development approach to working with students, student employees and volunteers to develop a customer service focused environment.

  • Work cooperatively with staff and students on projects, participate in policy formation and review for the department, support and attend departmental and campus programs, serve as an active member on university committees and provide clarity of communication throughout the organization.
  • Assist with campus events including but not limited to Wazoo's Block Party, Welcome Week, WSU Family Weekend, Homecoming and WinterFest.
  • Assist the Director with marketing efforts for Student Union & Activities department.
  • Coordinate department level assessment initiatives.

4. Perform other duties as assigned that support the University, Student Life and Development division, and departmental priorities and initiatives including professional development and campus committee participation.

Salary Range: $47,607.00 - $93,342.00

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Two (2) years of experience in event management, project coordination, student development, or student activities.
  • Strong oral, written interpersonal and electronic communication skills sufficient to prepare messages and materials for diverse audiences and clearly explain, discuss, and present.
  • Experience in effectively and efficiently utilizing computers to conduct business (i.e.: Microsoft Office suite, database, query creation and reporting software, computerized event scheduling, and web application software).

Preferred Qualification

  • Experience advising and supporting students and student organizations.
  • Experience in training, teaching, or facilitating learning and development.
  • Demonstrated experience with event coordination.
  • Demonstrated experience in business procedures, project planning and problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of student development theory, higher education administration, student activities and related programs.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, conflict mediation, organization, and problem-solving skills.
