Your role and responsibilities:

The Import/Export Specialist ensures that the local businesses conduct all activities in line with ABB Trade Compliance policies and guidelines, as well as assist with the local implementation of ABB's Global Trade Program. Key focus is the oversight of import and export operational functions and supervise forwarders' performances to these policies and guidelines.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in import/export operations, ensuring compliance with global trade regulations, accurate classification (HTS, ECCN, ECN), and proper documentation across all shipments.
  • Manage import/export processes and systems, including reviewing documentation, processing EDI transactions in GTS, maintaining databases, and monitoring broker/forwarder data exchanges.
  • Drive trade compliance and risk management, conducting audits, identifying potential violations, maintaining reporting (e.g., USHTS), and supporting continuous process improvements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with supply chain, engineering, and compliance teams, ensuring accurate product classifications, resolving operational issues, and promoting end-to-end compliance and efficiency.

Qualifications for the role:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business with 5+ years of experience OR Master's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of USHTS classifications, EAR, export controls, and customs regulations, with a clear understanding of U.S. import processes.
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented team player who works effectively in cross-functional environments, with a strong sense of ownership, responsiveness, and ability to quickly learn technical products and processes.
  • Preferred Experience Includes: Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Certified Export Specialist (CES) - Highly efficient in SAP or similar ERP systems, supporting trade compliance and import/export operations - (Bilingual English/Spanish)
  • Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
