Job Description:

AltaLink’s Operations – Project Development team is actively seeking a Project Manager to lead, manage and develop customer projects from initial requests through permitting with the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC). This team is at the forefront of the Alberta economy, working with the AESO, Distribution Facility Owners, Industrial Partners, Generation Customers (Gas, Wind and Solar), Emerging Technologies, and AltaLink Asset Management to grow Alberta’s economy.
As a Project Development Project Manager, you will lead a project team including both internal and external experts encompassing all aspects of AltaLink’s business: Customer Service, Engineering, Siting, Land, Environment, Consultation and Communication, Operations, Asset Management, and Regulatory. In addition, a Project Development Project Manager is an essential component of AltaLink’s Customer Service strategy and is a key interface with Connecting Customers and the AESO.
The successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for the development of Customer Projects; this will include: working closely with internal and external Customers to define project requirements (scope, schedule, etc.), leading the internal Project Team to define the project scope, budget and schedule, developing and delivering key project deliverables to the AESO and internal and external Customers (Connection Proposal, Service Proposal, and Facility Application), and providing exceptional Customer Service to all internal business partners and external Customers.
This position will be of interest to anyone interested in joining a fast-paced, dynamic team, who is looking for the challenge of leading projects for a vast array of diverse Customers while developing an exceptional Customer Service skillset.
This is a full-time position, based out of the Calgary office, and will report to the Manager, Project Development within the Projects group.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively lead projects within a matrix organization from concept to AUC decision; this includes: building, managing and leading project teams;
  • Represent AltaLink with the AESO and Customers, providing exceptional customer service to both, exceeding their high expectations, and consistently meeting required project deliverables;
  • Manage overall project cost, compliance, quality, scope, and schedule to meet project objectives;
  • Identify project risks and develop and implement mitigation strategies;
  • Deliver required project documentation: connection proposals, service proposals, and facility applications;
  • Lead the project through the AUC permitting process, including responding to Information Requests and assisting through any Regulatory proceedings;
  • Effectively and accurately report project status, costs, schedule, changes, and risks to the AESO, Customers, and AltaLink Management;
  • Manage AltaLink’s identity with the AESO, Customers, and Stakeholders including any Public impacted by the project;
  • Lead and manage external consultants and contractors responsible for the design, engineering, and estimate development activities;
  • Effectively and efficiently transition projects from the Development Team to the Delivery Team;
  • Demonstrate key behaviors and meet identified expectations outlined in our four cultural pillars – one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountability.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering;
  • Qualifies for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Engineers & Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA);
  • Minimum of 4 years of proven project management experience with ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities;
  • Experience building, managing and leading multi-disciplined teams in a matrix organization;
  • Experience leading and managing EPC contractors and external consultants;
  • A strong commitment to integrity, teamwork and safety;
  • An active facilitator and problem-solver, with a high-degree of flexibility and proven diplomacy and negotiation skills with all levels of an organization;
  • A Customer Service mindset that is proactive in exceeding internal and external Customer needs and expectations;
  • Strong inter-personal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes and the ability to develop and maintain working relationships with internal and external business partners and Customers;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential;
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment, with conflicting priorities; strong time management skills are essential;
  • Some site travel will be required, and a driver’s license is required;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes;
  • Proven track record of good attendance and performance.
