What is an implementation manager?

The primary responsibilities of an implementation manager are to introduce new systems, programs, and technologies into an organization. In this position, you draft an implementation strategy to ensure the new information system is right for the company’s goals. Other job duties include team management, creating work plans, and ensuring each process works smoothly. Technical skills are essential even though the career doesn’t entail creating programs or technology. Atlan Implementation Project Manager

Trace3

Job description

*Please note, this is a contract position through Trace3.*

Role Summary

The customer is implementing Atlan as its enterprise data catalog and context layer, beginning with the Customer 360 domain. Core platform onboarding and several source connections are substantially complete. Atlan's contracted role is primarily advisory - the customer requires a partner-side leader who provides the delivery capacity and technical execution to move the implementation from connected platforms to a usable, governed, and adopted catalog.

The Atlan Implementation Project Leader / Manager is the single accountable owner for that execution. This is a hands-on delivery leadership role, not a pure coordination role: the successful candidate runs the integrated plan and RAID discipline while remaining close enough to the platform to unblock lineage, connector, and RBAC issues personally. They will complete the remaining Phase 1 scope, prepare and execute the rollout, and establish a repeatable operating model that can be reused for future domains including Finance, Sales, and Marketing.

Business Outcomes This Role Is Accountable For

Trust: Establish Atlan as the trusted enterprise entry point for finding, understanding, and using governed data.
Unified foundation: Create a unified metadata and governance foundation for the Customer 360 initiative.
Efficiency: Reduce manual stewardship effort through Context Agents and repeatable enrichment workflows.
Access: Enable business users to discover certified assets while retaining broader visibility for designated roles.
Scalability: Create a repeatable implementation pattern that can be lifted into future domains.

Key Responsibilities

Program & Delivery Leadership

Own and maintain a single integrated delivery plan covering all remaining milestones, dependencies, and critical path.
Run the RAID log (risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies) as the authoritative program record and drive weekly planning and status cadence.
Serve as the named delivery owner bridging Atlan's advisory engagement and the customer's in-tenant responsibilities - closing the execution gap rather than escalating it.
Maintain a role matrix and escalation path to protect decision velocity when stakeholder availability is constrained.
Provide clear, executive-ready status reporting to the customer's DMO and program sponsors.

Technical Implementation

Direct and validate connector configuration across Snowflake, Salesforce, Domo, dbt, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle, with Okta for SSO.
Lead end-to-end lineage validation for Customer 360, including mapping resolution, defect triage, and documented test cases - the current highest-risk milestone.
Troubleshoot platform, ingestion, and metadata issues hands-on, engaging Atlan advisory support where appropriate.
Coordinate the Monte Carlo integration for data quality visibility as an adjacent capability.

Governance & Access Configuration

Complete RBAC and persona modeling, configuration, and testing; secure and evidence formal approval.
Balance business-user discovery of certified assets against broader visibility requirements for designated roles.

AI / Context Agents & Metadata Curation

Configure Context Agent collections for automated metadata enrichment and tune output quality to an agreed acceptance standard.
Publish the operating procedure so enrichment becomes a repeatable, low-touch workflow rather than a manual effort.
Drive certification of the P1 bookings asset set, including ownership assignment and glossary linkage.
Close metadata coverage gaps and report coverage progress against target.

Rollout, Enablement & Adoption

Build steward enablement materials and reusable guidance.
Develop and deliver the rollout package: training, demos, and launch communications.
Define the adoption measurement framework - KPIs and dashboards - and report against it.
Execute operational handoff with a documented support model and forward roadmap recommendations.

Deliverables Owned by This Role

Validated production-source inventory and connector configuration record.
End-to-end lineage validation report and remediation log.
Configured RBAC / persona model with approval evidence.
Configured Context Agent collections and supporting operating procedure.
Certified P1 bookings asset set with glossary links.
Steward enablement materials and reusable guidance.
Rollout package: training, demos, and launch communications.
Adoption measurement framework (KPIs / dashboards).
Closeout package: support model and roadmap recommendations.

Required Qualifications

8+ years delivering enterprise data or analytics programs, with 4+ years leading implementations as the accountable delivery owner.
Demonstrated experience implementing a modern data catalog or metadata management / governance platform - Atlan strongly preferred; Collibra, Alation, Informatica, or Microsoft Purview considered.
Hands-on working knowledge of the customer's stack: Snowflake, Salesforce, dbt, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle; familiarity with Domo and Okta-based SSO.
Proven ability to validate and remediate data lineage across heterogeneous sources, including mapping resolution and defect triage.
Practical experience designing and configuring RBAC / persona-based access models and shepherding them through security approval.
Strong data governance foundation: stewardship models, business glossary, asset certification, and metadata quality management.
Disciplined program management practice - integrated planning, RAID management, dependency tracking, and executive status reporting.
Excellent written and verbal communication; able to move between engineering detail and executive sponsor conversations in the same day.

Preferred Qualifications

Direct delivery experience on Atlan, including Context Agents / AI-assisted metadata enrichment configuration and tuning.
Experience with Monte Carlo or comparable data observability tooling.
Prior Customer 360 / Customer Master domain implementation experience.
Track record building repeatable implementation patterns scaled across multiple business domains.
Adoption and change management experience: training design, enablement content, and usage measurement.
Relevant certifications (PMP, Agile/Scrum, Snowflake, or platform-specific governance credentials).

Success Measures

Lineage for Customer 360 validated end to end, with remediation items closed or explicitly accepted.
RBAC / persona model configured, tested, and formally approved with documented evidence.
Context Agents live and producing enrichment at an agreed quality threshold, with an operating procedure in place.
P1 bookings asset set certified, owned, and glossary-linked.
Metadata coverage targets met with reporting in place.
Rollout executed and stewards enabled, with adoption KPIs trending against baseline.
Repeatable operating model documented and ready for the next domain, with a clean operational handoff.
