Job description

Systems and Network Infrastructure Manager

The Maine Community College System (MCCS) is looking for a full-time Systems and Network Infrastructure Manager.  Under the direction of the Associate CIO for Infrastructure Services (ACIO) the Systems and Network Infrastructure Manager is responsible for the IT systems infrastructure needs of MCCS including systems engineering and systems administration.  The position is responsible for the effective design, provisioning, implementation, management, monitoring, troubleshooting, and security of local and wide area networks, servers, storage systems, and voice/video telecommunications of MCCS that meets business objectives and service level expectations while maintaining system security and integrity. In collaboration with the ACIO, this position will help develop and lead the strategic, tactical, and operational activities, policies, and procedures of the infrastructure team.  This includes developing, advising, and training other employees in the execution of a strong information security strategy and associated policies and practices conforming to industry standards and best practices.  The position will regularly assess security risks and advise supervisors regarding mitigation strategies and monitor security performance and controls. This position is located on site at Eastern Maine Community College.

The Systems and Network Infrastructure Manager is classified in the MSEA Supervisory Services Unit, salary range 30 (expected starting pay is in the vicinity of $96,000). MCCS offers a full suite of employee benefits including health, dental, vision and life insurance, retirement savings, flexible savings accounts, employee assistance program, tuition waivers, 529 education plan MCCS matching grant and paid holidays, vacation, and sick time.

The required minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and six years of relevant experience.  Cisco CCNA certification or equivalent is also required.  Years of relevant training and experience may be considered in lieu of minimum education requirements on a year-for-year basis.

The required knowledge, skills, and abilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Broad and deep understanding and experience with IT network engineering and systems administration.
  • Project management experience.
  • An understanding of information security management systems and standards.
  • Ability to research and identify emerging standards, products, and security issues and recommend new products and solutions through evaluation.
  • Attention to detail as well as the ability to prioritize and execute tasks effectively.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of security operations and related information.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the current and developing information technology security practices, procedures and policies, and the ability to stay abreast of new information security sector developments.
  • CompTIA Security+, CISSP certification or other globally recognized cyber security certification.
