Rockwell Collins Inc. d/b/a Collins Aerospace has an opening for a Senior Manager, Software Engineering in Cedar Rapids, IA. Up to 4 international trips per year to customer sites or to the company's facilities in India to coordinate development activities between teams.

What YOU will do
  • Lead engineering team and drive the evolution of team processes, methods, skillsets, tools, and technology while supporting Collin's process methodologies.
  • Develop and promote a unified vision for the department by working with the leadership team to foster employee engagement and empowerment, set project priorities, manage project staffing, and provide technical leadership.
  • Identify efficiencies, share resources, and support the development of best practices.
  • Make strategic decisions and communicate objectives, approach, and status to audiences with varying degrees of understanding of the products and underlying technology.
  • Lead and coordinate program-level cost estimates during the bid and proposal cycle.
  • Estimate, track, and communicate cost, schedule, and risk in support of pursuit/program metrics.
  • Oversee and operate within budgets. Develop and enact resource demand plans that are aligned with multiple VSLs.
  • Continuously improve the performance of the team through development of staff. This includes assigning resources to projects, setting and evaluating goals, coaching and managing compensation, recognition, and awards.
  • Will supervise 20 reports which include: Senior Principal Engineer, Software Engineering; Engineer I, Software Engineering; Senior Engineer, Software Engineering; Engineer II, Software Engineering; and Principal Engineer, Software Engineering.

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Must possess at least a bachelor's degree or its equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field and 10 years of progressive experience as a Software Engineer or related role. In the alternative, at least a master's degree or its equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field and 7 years of experience as a Software Engineer or related role would be acceptable.
  • Must possess at least 4 years of experience with DO-178C certification.
  • Must possess at least 4 years of experience leading or contributing to avionics systems/software life-cycle activities, including requirements, architecture, design, model-based development, coding, integration, verification and validation, and system testing.
  • Must possess at least 4 years of experience working in or leading teams developing real-time embedded software applications using high-level
  • programming languages such as C or C++.
  • Must possess at least 3 years of proven experience in project planning and execution leadership for moderate-to large-sized teams, delivering on cost,
  • schedule, scope, and quality commitments.
  • Non-US Person - Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the company's immigration sponsorship now or in the future. The company will not offer immigration sponsorship for this position. The company will not seek an export authorization for this role.

The salary range is $176,238.00 to $250,000.00 USD per year. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
