Job Title: Assistant Athletic Director - Griffith Middle School and High School
Department: Athletics
Reports To: Athletic Director / Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Summary
The Assistant Athletic Director supports the planning, coordination, and oversight of athletic programs for both Griffith Middle School and Griffith High School.
This position works in close collaboration with the Athletic Director to ensure the smooth operation of daily activities, adherence to Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) and middle school athletic regulations, and the delivery of a positive and inclusive experience for all student-athletes.
Key responsibilities include leading and managing fundraising initiatives, building and maintaining strong community partnerships, and fostering school spirit across both buildings. This role plays a vital part in promoting athletic excellence, sportsmanship, and engagement within the school community.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Athletic Program Support
  • Assist the Athletic Director with scheduling practices, games, tournaments, and transportation for all middle school and high school athletic teams.
  • Coordinate officials, event staff, scorekeepers, and volunteers for home athletic events at both schools.
  • Ensure compliance with IHSAA rules, middle school athletic guidelines, and district policies.
  • Support coaches with eligibility verification, roster submissions, and administrative requirements.
  • Assist with athletic program budgeting, purchase orders, and inventory management for both levels.

Fundraising & Resource Development
  • Plan, organize, and oversee fundraising campaigns, sponsorship programs, and special events to support athletic programs at both schools.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local businesses, alumni, and community organizations to secure financial and in-kind support.
  • Collaborate with booster clubs, parent groups, and school organizations to coordinate fundraising efforts.
  • Maintain accurate fundraising financial records and ensure compliance with district and state regulations.

Community Engagement & Public Relations
  • Serve as a visible representative of Griffith athletics within the community.
  • Develop promotional materials, press releases, and social media content for athletic programs and events.
  • Organize community events such as youth sports clinics, alumni nights, and fan appreciation activities.
  • Foster partnerships that build attendance, sponsorships, and positive public relations for Griffith athletics.

Event & Facility Management
  • Oversee setup, operations, and breakdown of athletic events for both schools.
  • Manage ticket sales, concession operations, and merchandise sales as assigned.
  • Monitor and maintain facilities and equipment to ensure safety and readiness for practices and competitions.

Qualifications
Education & Experience:
  • College coursework in sports management, education, or a related field, or equivalent field experience in athletics administration, coaching, or event management.
  • Fundraising and community engagement experience strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple programs across two schools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working with students, staff, parents, and community members.
  • Knowledge of IHSAA rules, middle school athletic guidelines, and district policies.
  • Proficiency in scheduling software, social media platforms, and office technology.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours as required by athletic event schedules.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Frequent standing, walking, and lifting/moving athletic equipment.
  • Work in both indoor and outdoor environments, often during evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, high-energy environments with large crowds.

Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Athletic Director in accordance with district policies and based on the effectiveness of athletic program support, fundraising efforts, and community engagement.
