IHMVCU is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Mortgage Underwriter to join our team! This role is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys analyzing information, solving problems, and supporting members through one of life's most important financial decisions. As a Junior Mortgage Underwriter, you will have the opportunity to build your mortgage lending expertise, collaborate with experienced professionals, and contribute to a team focused on accuracy, service, and responsible lending.

The Junior Mortgage Underwriter will assist with reviewing residential mortgage loan files, evaluating documentation, identifying conditions, and ensuring loans are completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with lending guidelines. This role will enjoy a hybrid working environment at our beautiful headquarters located on River Drive in Moline, IL. This facility includes a comfortable office environment with an on-site gym facility.

Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent; Two year college degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous experience in mortgage lending, loan processing, banking, financial services, or a related field preferred.
  • Basic understanding of residential mortgage products, loan documentation, credit reports, income calculations, and regulatory requirements preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to review complex information accurately.
  • Analytical mindset with sound judgment and a willingness to learn underwriting guidelines and risk assessment practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Comfort using Microsoft Office and loan origination or financial systems; experience with automated underwriting systems is a plus.
  • Commitment to providing outstanding service to members and internal partners.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Review mortgage loan applications and supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness, and guideline compliance.
  • Analyze borrower credit, income, assets, liabilities, collateral, and documentation to help determine loan eligibility and identify potential risk.
  • Partner with mortgage loan officers, processors, and senior underwriters to gather additional information, clarify documentation, and support timely loan decisions.
  • Assist with issuing, tracking, and clearing loan conditions in accordance with underwriting guidelines.
  • Document underwriting findings clearly and maintain organized, audit-ready loan files.
  • Stay current on mortgage lending guidelines, compliance requirements, and internal procedures.
  • Provide exceptional internal service while supporting a positive mortgage experience for IHMVCU members.
