The Database Specialist II is responsible for tasks listed under the SQL Database Specialist role with additional duties to include Documentation, workload balancing, communications with users, and supervision of the Access and Database Administration projects and tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Same duties as described in the โ€œMajor Responsibilitiesโ€ of a SQL Database Specialist.
  • Develop and maintain database applications for regular report requests and reference tables.
  • Develop ad-hoc report using programming logic based on business requirements in order to extract healthcare and membership data for financial reporting purposes.
  • Create critical reference table(s) for Finance department analysts to use.
  • Pull and manipulate data requests for ad hoc analysis as required by analysts within the team(s).
  • Mentor/train accountants/analyst on how to use and pull data from the SQL database.
  • Competencies:
  • Oracle database, SQL, PL/SQL Oracle utilities (professional skill level)
  • MS SQL Server, ANSI SQL, SSMS / SSIS and TSQL (professional skill level)
  • Microsoft Excel (intermediate level) and Access (intermediate level)
  • Must be able to create, up-date, and modify existing tables from scratch based on business requirements.
  • Must be able to write queries and stored procedures in SQL Server efficiently in order to meet reporting requirements (i.e.: actuarial studies of healthcare data, reporting to regulatory agencies, and/or internal reporting of healthcare costs). In addition, automate as many standard reports as possible.
  • Must be able to perform QA testing and data validation of output to ensure that the results are fit for business needs. The requirements include developing and writing queries to verify the accuracy of the data output.
  • Must have some healthcare business knowledge so that the Data Specialist can translate business needs into technical programming logic.
  • Ensure the privacy and security of PHI (Protected Health Information) as outlined in IEHPโ€™s policies and procedures relating to HIPAA compliance.
  • Qualifications

    Education & Requirements

    • The following experience may be concurrent, preferably in a health care setting:
    • Five (5) plus years in database development, including analysis and design, using Microsoft Access or similar PC based relational database application
    • Two (2) years in database administration and development, using Microsoft SQL Server or similar relational database application. Two (2) years programming with Structured Query Language (SQL)
    • Must possess experience, knowledge and understanding of database development, lifecycle management, tools, and cross-functional activities
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Accounting, Public or Business Administration, or Health Care from an accredited institution required
    • In lieu of the required degree, a minimum of four (4) years of additional relevant work experience is required for this position
    • This experience is in addition to the minimum years listed in the Experience Requirements above

    Key Qualifications

    • Techniques of relational database analysis, design, and implementation, including database management techniques, principles and practices of project control, physical and logical security techniques, experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Windows and Novell operating systems, and client/server principles and techniques.
    • Familiarity with Crystal Reports preferred
    • Ability to estimate database development tasks given a set of requirements and assumptions

    Work Model Location

    This position is on a hybrid work schedule. (Mon & Fri - remote, Tues - Thurs onsite in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.)

    Pay Range

    USD $104,041.60 - USD $137,841.60 /Yr.
