Job description

Position Summary:
Prevent drowning and other injuries in the Aquatics Center at the Glenwood Springs Community Center.
Essential Functions:
  • Monitor activities in and near the water through patron surveillance.
  • Prevent injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors.
  • Enforce facility rules and regulations and educate patrons about them.
  • Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to all emergencies.
  • Administer first aid and CPR, including using an automated external defibrillator (AED).
  • Work as a team with other lifeguards, facility staff, and management.
  • Test the pool water chemistry.
  • Assist patrons by performing safety orientations, administering swim tests, fitting lifejackets and other duties.
  • Clean or perform maintenance.
  • Complete forms and reports.
  • Perform opening duties, closing duties, and facility safety checks and inspections.

  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a group atmosphere.
  • Reliable and self-disciplined.
  • Communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Use good judgment, take initiative, and respond diplomatically and professionally to issues.

Education, Training, and Certifications:
Necessary:
  • Must be 15 years of age or older
  • Must have current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED

Position may require long periods of standing or sitting, working indoors in a variety of environmental conditions, including high temperatures, humidity, moisture, and distracting noises.
Special Requirements
This is a part-time position, up to 28 hours per week. Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays, depending on the specific need.
